Subject: Brakes on '89 4WD.........
IP: Logged

Message:
My brakes are working fine, except they are making a grinding/rubbing noise when slowing down and applying them. I have an appt. scheduled for a free inspection. My question is - How do I avoid being ripped off? I know they are likely to tell me that in order to replace the pads, etc. they need to replace other things as well. Well, my truck is 18 years old and I don't want to put a lot of $ in it. Any suggestions on what to tell them, or what to watch out for to avoid a ripoff.
And yes, I know I could probably do it myself, but I don't have the tools or the time.
Thanks for any helpful advice you can give,
Dave

i'd say that your probably gonna need new shoes. if you've driven that way for a long time you may need new drums too.
so in short :
1) new shoes
2) spring kit
3) wheel cylinder (if damaged)
4) drums (if warped or seriously scared)
