Message: when its cold the truck will turn over and stall until you hold your foot on it for a min or two till it warms up a little. Once it warms up, it idles really high. I tried adjusting the idle screw (drilled the cap out) and it now idles lower, but still when it starts it dies especially after spirited driving. I have eliminated the IAC being the problem along with the PVC. Anyone else have any idea what it could possibly be?

Message: Matt, not sure what causing your problem.
Brandon, have your battery load tested. what you describe is a common symptom of a weak battery.

Message: Are you SURE you eliminated the IAC or PCV?
Many aftermarket PCV valves are junk.
I cleaned my IAC and it looked good, but didn't idle properly unil I replaced it.
The battery is a good place to look as mentioned.
One other place-the engine temp sensor-NOT the one for the dash gauge, but the one for the computer. It tells the computer the engine temp and adjusts accordingly.

Message: I also have the same problem, but it doesn't happen only when it is cold, or consistantly. Just yesterday it happened on the way to work at 6pm but not on the way home at 3am. I haven't tried the PCV or IAC yet. What is the best thing to try first? Its a 2000 Dakota V6 with 150,000 miles on it.

Message: I hope this helps someone. I have a 1994 Dakota
with the 3.9 that I bought new. It was my daily
drive for about 9 years and has been my weekend
work truck for the past 10 years. It only has
about 120,000 miles on it. I have had the dreaded
idle problems listed here and could not figure out
what it was. Changed IAC and MAP sensor and
neither fixed it. It was my EGR valave. My
catalytic converted got clogged up a few years ago
and had to be replaced, I think it blew out my EGR
valve. Anyway, I read about this fix on another
forum and checked out my EGR valve and it was
blown. Very easy to replace only took about 15
minutes and I am not that handy with tools. Truck
now runs like it used to. Good luck, this problem
drove me crazy for the past year.

Message: My O2 sensor did not need to be replaced. That was
the next thing to check if EGR valve was not
problem. They probably could use to be changed, I
think they are the original sensors.
