Message: ok, this one is strange and fustrating me. my 92 5.2 (318)2wd does this weird thing when i try to start it. **with the wipers off** when i turn the key to the run position the wipers will run for a swip or two then stop, and the truck won't start no matter what. if i turn the key to run and the wipers don't go, then the truck will start and run fine. i was checking through the wiring and found a couple bad wires and fixed them, but apparently they were unassociated. i cannot seem to find a corralation between the two other then some module shorted out or malfunctioning. anybody have any ideas?
thanks for any help

Message: does the motor turn over when this happens?
have you checked for fire at the coil when it does this?
and fuel pressure and/or fuel pump running when it does its thing?
all these things will help narrow it down,it maybe a steering column issue[specially if it has tilt]or a # of other things, like poor ground etc.

Message: motor turns, seems it would crank forever except the battery dies. fuel pump seems to run for the couple seconds then stop (like it's supposed to). haven't checked for fire at the coil, never thought of testing that. it does have tilt so i will tear apart the colum and see if i can find anything. thanks vern

Message: Trixie - you might be surprised. When my 4.7 was new, it had a problem with the intermittent wipers not working properly - sometimes too many swipes, sometimes too long a pause. The problem is intermttent too; dealer was unable to see it, so wouldn't do anything - said there were 7 possible components involved. Mopar wouldn't let them replace all 7, and it started working better - only doing this once in the past 4 years.
Now, if one or more of those components is also related to the ignition (and I'm sure at least 1 is) - then it could cause exactly the type of problem that Josh is having here. I love my 4.7 too; but let's not kid ourselves...
Josh your '90 has substantial differences, but if a tech or someone can pinpoint a component in your truck that has these two systems in common, that could help with your problem.
Lead, follow, or get out of the way
