Subject: 93 Dakota tranny question IP: Logged
Message: I got bought a 93 dakota with a 318 in it. I have noticed that when i floor it, the truck will take about 4-6 seconds to kick it down a gear and go... Is this normal for these trucks?

Message: First thing would be to make sure the kickdown cable is working properly. If the plastic tabs that hold it in place are broken, or the cable is otherwise loose, that would allow slack in the cable and delay the kickdown. The kickdown moves with the throttle movement and is a direct link between the throttle body and the tranny.
Naturally, a thorough tranny servicing is always a good idea, and that involves fluid/filter/band adjustment.
