Message: Ok, one last thing, for now anyway, this may sound crazy, or really stupid, but I'm going to ask anyway. What is or is there even, the possibility of having a gear changed in a trasnmission??? For example, so far I am really leaning towards the GR238 for my project, however, the lower than my fifth, 6th gear really bugs me! Essentially, with my rear-end ratio(3.55), I'm doing better with what I've got right now on the freeway than what I would if I had the GR238! That irritates me! I really like the other ratios, I LOVE the thought of 6 gears on tap, but I want an insane high 6th gear! I want like a 0.62 or something in that 6th spot, what is the possiblity of having that sixth gear changed to something higher than what it comes with? Anybody? Obviously it would need to go to a tranny shop and so forth, but is that even an option? Somebody fill me in please! THANKS!

Message: OK, the six-speed is a great shifting trans. compared to the 5-speed. But every gear is a higher ratio than old, even sixth. In my '02 2500 RPM in fifth equaled 64 MPH. Now 2500 RPM equals 60 mph. My gas mileage averages 15mpg now compared with 17mpg in the '02. First gear is not a granny gear, but you can leave a dead stop in second with no problem or slipping. What I don't understand is my new Dak w/over 12k miles is still not as quick as the old. I have the same 3.55/1 rearend (LSD now) and the same tire, maybe I just got a weak motor. I've never been to the track but I dog my vehicles to the tune of 700 to 800 miles per week, so I've got great butt feel. LOL. The best part of owning any stick, is getting third gear scratches at 50-55,MPH with a stock 4.7L! Oh yeah, my '05 rev limiter is 5700rpm compared to 6000rpm and the speed limiter is now 110mph compared to 115mph before. My new one may be a little heavier with heated, power, leather buckets and 6-disc MP3. The new front suspension improved the ride NONE in my opinion and the steering is overboosted more than before. (Every truck I've driven since 1975 has had overboosted steering; give me some road feel!) I'm really a sports car driver stuck in a truck for work.

Message: V8 MANual - your new truck is slower because the gen 4s are heavier than the gen 3 - whole truck is heavier, not just because of the weight of your options.

Message: Oops, those speeds were at 2000rpm. 2500rpm gets me 73mph in my '05. Both trucks are 2WD.
For Jclaus98, you can change gears in any trans for enough money. I doubt if you will find one made for the 6-speed as it is built in Germany, near Heilbronn (my home from '82 to '85) - search GETRAG.de. A good machine shop might make you one for a small fortune?
I remember a few years ago, an auxillary overdrive (or underdrive, your specs) two-gear trans being sold for trucks that went between your existing trans and the diff. You would have to shorten your driveshaft. I don't think it would work in 4WD.

Message: www.gearvendors.com.
Maybe it would be cheaper, and you'd have 10 gears.
