Subject: Stalling.. from bad to worse.. Ugh! IP: Logged
Message: Alrighty... 2000 Dak CC SLT 4x4 4.7L 33k miles.
This is starting to bug me. In the past, when I cranked up my truck after long periods of downtime (12+ hours), it would crank fine and idle between 600 and 700 rpms for about 8 seconds; then drop down to almost stalling before kicking back up. It would run fine after this.
Fast forward a bit to yesterday. Now, after extended downtime, it stalls out about 8 to 10 seconds after cranking (drops down to 200rpms and dies). Weeee! So it has finally gone from bad to worse. I've replaced the TPS already because it went funkadelic on me. I'm figuring my last option is the IAC valve. It runs fine after that first cranking incident though which is weird. The IAC may not be initializing propery after being unpowered for so long. I just want to get everyone's opinions before forking out the money for a new IAC valve. Suggestions, anyone? Thanks!

Don't twist the plunger.
Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Message: my Dak had that problem and it turned out to be a bad battery. If it isn't putting out full juice ( maybe one of the cells is bad ) it can affect the idle and cause the rpm's to drop and die. And your truck will still start with a bad or going bad battery. It will just run bad until it warms up ( or charges up) then, like me, one morning it will be dead.

Message: The battery is fairly new, Jerry, but it still is a good idea. It is somewhere between a year and a half and two years old I believe. I'll keep an eye on it in the morning after cranking to see how the charging system reacts on the instrument gauge. I'll take it by Advance Autoparts or Autozone to have them check. Thanks for the advice.
Kowalski, I cleaned the IAC and entire TB about 3 or 4 months ago when all this first started. Unfortunately it didn't fix the problem.

Message: Mine (2000 QC 4.7) was doing the same thing. I put some Sea Foam through it and it cleared up temendously and then it slowly started it again. So I did the Sea Foam trick again only this time I used a little more. Also, not too long ago I switched to a cold air filter and come to think of it, it hasn`t acted up (stalling) since then either. Of course I did the sea foam at the same time too.

Message: I had a stalling issue with my 4.7 and I added tranny fluid and it seemed to have fixed the problem. Something about the converter locking up??? Only difference is mine would do it when I would come to a stop, not right after starting.

Message: It is still in park when it wants to stall out. I had run seafoam through the TB when all this first started happening and it didn't clear up. It also seems to be temperature specific too. Does it more often when it is cooler out. On warm days (like on a weekend when I don't have to get up for work) it doesn't do it at all; whereas on a weekday when it is 60 degrees out, it wants to do it.

Message: I had similar problems after a couple weeks downtime for repairs. It was a cooler day when everything was completed and I got a very low unstable idle that would stall. After many checks from TPS to IAC, I found the voltage of the two week dormant battery caused erattic movement of the IAC motor. Seems that the cool air was a little too much for the IAC to compensate for and caused the stall. I would make shure that the battery has a good charge 12.5-13 volts and watch the idle. I dont know about auto converter caused stalls(I like to shift gears myself)but guess it is possible if the lockup silenoid malfunctions.

Message: I do notice the battery charge gauge takes about 10 seconds to get up to the mid mark. I'm not sure what the typical length of time it takes to get up to that point though. Hopefully I can get to a place that can check the whole charging system for me today. Thanks for the tips, everyone.

Message: atout, it might be the 3-wire splice under the fuse box in the engine compartment. This is common for your generation Dak. There's a splice in the wiring harness, you may have to redo the splice or solder it. Good luck!

Message: Well, I took the battery to get checked and everything showed as "good". So I guess I'll try the IAC next. Anyone know where I can get one at a decent cost? The only place I've found it is Autozone and it is a special order for $93. Anyone know where else I can get one?

Usually I need to stop put it in park, remove the key, reinsert key & restart. It usually restarts immediately, but not always.AIS motor & fuel pump check out o.k. After i wk at dealership, still no ideas.
