Message: Logic question;
If you need additives and conditioners to an oil to work right, why not use oil that doesn't need them?
500,000 miles ago I began using Amsoil ATF in my transmission. It's still running.

Message: Changing your automtic fluid at 4000 km is a total waist of money unless your changing to syn. Even at that, I would still run it at least 10 to 15,000km to be sure it's wore in.that way you get rid of the shaving junk that will be in the pan/filter right off the bat. I like that idea and in fact did this with my 99 5.2 changing it to amsoil syn

Message: Story to make a point:
Around 100,000 miles my 98 3.9 automatic developed a mildly irritating problem; a surge on cruise control, caused by the torque converter un-locking and locking.
Three dealers and two, including the biggie, transmission shops said I needed a new transmission.
Around 300,000 miles I discovered the problem was caused by a bad throttle position sender. Now, that same transmissin is still running, with 500,000 miles on it, although I did have to replace solenoids a while ago.
Why didn't I follow their advise? Because the Amsoil Oil Analyzers, Inc. tech, looking at my sample, said there was nothing mechanicaly wrong.
The point;
Oil analysis works.
Suggestion;
Use synthetic. Have it analyzed after about 4,000 miles to get a baseline of the transmissions condition.
Do it again after another 4,000 miles, because you won't believe it.
If you chose to use Amsoil,which does not need additives, run it three times the factory recommended change mileage, which it is rated for. Do another analysis before changing, just to find out.
