Message: The trannies will all bolt up. The V6 and 318 have zero-balance converters, and will interchange. Typically, the V6's came equipped with the A500 and later derivatives. Early 318's were as well, but most have the heavier 518/46RH, 46RE. My SHelby 318 from 1989 had the A500. The 500 has a lower 1st gear, slightly lower 2nd gear than the 518 to help initial acceleration in lower power vehicles. The overdrive sections are the same, but the 518 "front three" section is bigger. The 518 had bigger tranny fluid lines. No big deal there. Either will bolt into the same mounts. If you plan on hammering it, get the A518/46RH. Avoid the 1996 and up RE's. They require OBDII computer to operate, and your OBDI can't do it. Any 318/360 Magnum block will work, as well as 1991 Dakota 318's. ALso, for longer life, get a TransGo or Fairbanks shift kit and add a good external cooler.
