I have a 1994 Dakota 4x4 with the 5.2 and auto transmission,ac, criuse control. I have been battling the shudder miss under light throttle loads at around 2200 rpm problem for about 3 years with no success. I am preparing to eliminate the fuel injection, ignition system and the engine control computer and convert to a carbed set up using the available mopar dual plane intake and to a old school standard electronic ignition system as found standard on mopars in the later 70's and early 80's. As far as the transmission is concerned have already found the solution to controlling the overdrive and converter lock-up so that is not an issue. Basically I was wondering what if any guages may be affected as far as temp ect. Also apparantly I will lose the tach and does anyone know if that function could easily be restored by getting the signal off of the neg coil connection? What about cruise control or ac functions? Any knowledge would be of a great help. Thanks, vfourmax

What will you lose? Seems to me you are in the process of eleminating everything a modern vehicle has to offer. Why not dump it and buy something pre 1960?

Why is it that when anyone wants to make a radical change they are told to buy something else. If it wasn't for guys like, vfourmax, there wouldn't be a hot rod industry. You would all be driving mundane crap.

Going back to basics makes it much easier for many people to work on and modify their engines without the complexity of computers.

It also depends upon where you live. In some states you can't change a vehicle like this legally. Some people have to get a DEQ certificate showing they passed emission testing in order to get their vehicle licenced.

The tach is run via the computer. Not sure if the stocker can be revived with the mods, but you can get your choice of aftermarket tachs and hook it up in the traditional fashion.

If what your lookin for is hotrod go-go power then keep the fuel injection. Fuel injection is one of the best ways to bring fuel into a motor. If you do your homework and research you'll find out that carbed motors have somany things that effect how much fuel go's to each piston. Fuel injection brings the same ammount fuel to each piston at the right time for the best power you can get. Don't get me wrong I like hot rods with barebones big blocks for raw horsepower but if you want go-go, fuel injection is where it's at.

Adding to what Truck Guy said; Your fuel injected engine, thanks to slick computing, adjusts the fuel mixture for altitude and demand. You actually have more power and better fuel economy wherever you go and however you drive. That is why I said what I said earlier.
Also, your transmission, thanks to the computer, is adaptive. Mine actually gets better mileage with a big ol load than empty, like yours will.

Changing to carb tells me you know without a doubt that fuel delivery is your shutter problem. if i'm correct, half the battle is already won. you need only determine which part is causing this shutter. a good voltage reader should tell you if each sensor in the fuel system is working correct. You say it's been going on for 3 years. That right there tells you it's fixable as it run correct for many years. Now on the other hand. If you have no clue what's causing it, why on earth would you just jump in changing your fuel system amoung other things that will need changing. Either way you FIRST need to know What's wrong and once you know that you need not change the fuel system unless this is something you really want done. All that said, I'm betting my money your problem is ignition. Reason..... the problem is to isolated in one small area to be fuel.

So many problems .... So little time
