I have a 91 dakota with a 318 in it. Recently the charging system started to have troubles and I would get stranded with a dead battery. I replaced the alternator and still no charging occurs. Also, now my engine does not get spark so it will not start. I checked the spark at the coil and there is none there. What confuses me is there is 12 volts of power from the wires going to the coil, but when I hook the coil back up, the voltage drops to zero. Anyone have any ideas that would help me to get on the road again? Thanks in advance.

You have a primary wire that is damaged or the ground is faulty etc. Do some investigation of your batt. cables, grounds, primary wires at the coil and then follow them back to the harness. Check connectors etc on harnesses etc. Something is probably corroded or cut. Shouldn't be too hard to figure it out.
