My 92 5.2 would be driving down the road and suddenly just go dead. Pull off to the side of the road and it would restart, no problem. Finally it got to the point where I could not go around the block. Now, the fuel pump still works as I can smell the gas, so I figured, since this has happened on every vehicle I have owned since 1976, it was the computer. I mean 120K miles and it is about time. So, I bought the new SBEC from my local auto parts house and it now will not start. I swapped the Auto Shut Off Relay with one of the others and still no joy. I thought I might have hooked up the negative and positive on the battery in some odd order so I have asked for a new computer, 90 days, no questions warranty.

Any suggestions before I try the new one? I really need my truck. I am moving and need to haul my stuff.

If the same problem follows you, it must be you.
Seriously, what do you do to each vehicle? What do you carry in the cab? Your electromagnet you use at the scrapyard? Kidding, but you see the idea. There is something you do.
Coil could do that. Bad sensor too. You might try wiggling things, one at a time, to see.

Well, it sounds like it could be something up with the charging system. Battery or alternator maybe? From reading a lot of the posts on this board, I found the battery or charging system in general can do very weird stuff if it is out-of-whack. I've yet to experience anything like it, but it does sound like a possible place for you to troubleshoot.

Seems it was a dud computer from my parts house. When the so-called new computer did not work, I immediately asked for a replacement on my warranty. It came in a couple of days later and when I installed it, truck started right up and runs like a champ.

Thanks for the suggestions though, I will file them away for the next time it does not start.

When it happens again go with the coil like shatto said.
