I just bought an 06 dakota quad 4x2 with 4.7 V8. I am thinking of purchasing 4.10 gears and running bigger tires. I would appreciate any info, especially how large of a tire I can run without having any clearance problems. Richmond sells them but they have 2 different shaft sizes. Thanks, Don.

4x4 trucks have a tire package that has 31's but your truck is a little lower. i think if you run 30 to 31 inch tires you should be fine. And when it comes to the gears. 4.10 is going to be a pritty low gear. you might want to find a gearing calculator and plug in everything you have and it will tell you what rpm's you will run at different speeds. Your truck probably has 3.55's in it so if i were you i would go to 3.73's

4.10 is an excellent choice for the 4.7; I went to that last year. Several of us have actually seen a small mpg gain with that combo.

if ur gonna be running 31" tires go for the 4.56 gears. i have them on my R/T with 28" tires and its a blast to drive and not all that bad on the highway, 60mph is 2250rpm. with 31" tires it will be great. otherwise do 4.10 at the very least.

If I will replace the gears to 4,1 in rear axle,do I have to replace them in front axle as well in my 4x4?
