My 97 Dakota Sport sometimes chugs when I start it. I give it a little gas to see if it will come out of it but it doesn't. When I turn it off and start it again it runs fine. It seems to do this mainly when it is hot out, I was wondering if it could have something to do with using 10% ethanol. I switched to regular unleaded and it hasn't done it since. Your help would be appreciated.

I'm guessing low fuel pressure. My best guess is when it is hot fuel can evaperate at least some and when you start it the punp is running a bit week so not enough fuel. When you shut it down and turn it back on the pump again runs a bit allowing it to catch up a bit better. Try this. Next time you think it's going to do it turn the key on for a couple of seconds. off then on again for a couple of seconds. Off again then take it to start. See if it stops the problem. If it does replace the fuel pump before it leaves you stranded. If I'm wrong, your lucky and I'm without a clue.

How much does a fuel pump run? I think that may be what it is because if I turn the key forward and wait a while then start it, it doesn't seem to do it.

gas just doesnt evaporate off in a fuel line or in a gas tank.... gas only evaps off if its on the ground expossed to air.... if it runs differently on the new gas mixture that has the ethanol then you might be able to run that gas in your truck... it might burn differently then the gas with mtbe in it... it might be something you wanna to take to dodge and explain cause they might have a PCM update.... cause eventually all gas stations are gonna be runnin the 10% ethanol mixture and mtbe will be outta here....

Been there and done that, here in the Bay Area.
Truck still runs like crap.
In fact, when the changeover happens, you can expect a noticable drop in performance for a while, until the fuel system is completely cleaned out and the computer relearns driving with a bit different fuel.

You changed to regular unleaded from what, please?
