Message: Whether you are turning or not makes no difference. Assuming that you never let off the accelerator you will likely still get better than 3-5 mpg with the 5.2 or maybe even the 5.9. Your maximum speed would simply be about 100-110 mph.

Unless you goal is 3 to 5 mpg, then tighten it up some more.

Message: Going to the coast one year, 99 CC 4x4 5.2, I was headed through the Columbia gorge, Oregon side and the head wind was so strong it was kicking my wipers over 6 inches off the windsheild. My accurate milage overhead reader indicater was going from 5.4 to just over 7 MPG. So I'd say anything is possible lol

Message: If this about NASCAR or something other than a stock Dakota then it is entirely possible to get 3-5 "gallons per mile." The M1A1Abrams would be a good example.

Message: on average nextel cup stock cars get 4.5MPG. Running at 8000rpm 180MPH.
I would say it would be difficult to acheive a 3-5mpg average. unless your driving in first gear with the tach almost redlined.. then maybe.

Message: Well, yeah, average would be difficult; however he said putting the pedal to the floor around every turn. More throttle = more air = more fuel to the mixture. If your truck is getting say 15mpg on a light pedal, then it is very possible to get 3-5mpg when putting the pedal to the floor.

Message: Even if you kept the pedal to the metal all the time you would do better than 3-5mpg. I still fail to see what flooring it "around every turn" would have to do with it. That seems to imply that there would be times that you don't have it floored. Assuming that you are "always" turning while holding the pedal to the floor you would certainly blow the tires before you went thru much of your gas.
The average Dakota won't do much over 100mph and that's with it floored. At that speed your mileage would be about 8-10 mpg. I suppose if I was real ambitious I could install a flow meter and get a more accurate figure.
