Subject: 2002 Dakota CC, 4.7, 4x2 MPG report. IP: Logged
Message: Figured with gas being so high, I could share my setup and the MPG I have been getting.
2002 Dodge Dakota Club Cab
3.55 Gears
4.7 V8 - 2 Wheel Drive
K&N FIPK 2 kit with filter.
Fastman Throttle Body
Gibson Split Rear Exhaust (Cat Back)
Mobile 1 Synthetic
22 Gallon Tank, Bed Cap, not cover.
87 Oct Gas.
Over the last few months under conservative driving I have obtained on a regular basis -
18.2 - 18.7 MPG City
21.3 to 22.1 MPG Highway
Important note, My mileage was 2 to 3 MPG lower with a Stage 1 Jet Chip. Even with Mid-grade and premium I was never been able to come close to the MPG I have achieved without it.
Please feel free to share your setup and MPG as well. I'd be interested in how to improve this.

All Stock except for Flowmaster muffler

I get roughly 19-21mpg on flat highway running 70mph. I think the biggest thing that is helping my mileage is switching over to all-synthetic fluids.

Message: Mine is a 2002 SLT, V6 with a Fastman, K&N drop-in, Amsoil, 3.55 automatic. Be HAPPY with your mileage, Sleepy - you're getting better mileage with your V8 than I am with the 6! City driving with mine runs 16-17 (and sometimes worse), and highway is usually in the 21 range. Everybody that I know that has Dakota 6's wishes that they'd gone the V8 route.

Message: Ironically I too had a V6 Dakota, a 1997 4x4. And that slow poke sucked gas like a 572 crate. So with my 2002, I couldn't go the 5.2 route, but settled for the 4.7, and although it aint no RT, I'm still very happy with it.
