Message: How much of a pain in the ass is it to swap out a 3.9 for a 4.7? Found one for real cheap and was thinking it wasn't that bad of a deal. Only has ~23k on it. I know it'll mount to my tranny (NV3500) I wont be doing this so I'm not worried about it if it's just a pain but if it's not that bad I'd like to do it. Any help? '00 CC 4x4

Message: Man-- I would do it..
I think it's a pretty simple setup--
I don't know all of it, but I do know you'll need an ecu from the 4.7-- and it does use 4 or 5 o2 sensors, so be sure those are all there...
It bolts up-- how hard could it be???
Once it's running-- You'll freakin love it.

Message: From reading posts all I see is nay say about it and being better off goin to the 5.2. I have no problem with the 5.2 but I can't find one I'm willing to pay for, for what they're selling and this eng. is pretty cheap.

Message: And either way you have a V8 with some kick in the a$$ torque..
The 5.2 however, will need more mods to be fast like a 4.7--
The 4.7 is a wicked motor in a dakota.. But for the money you would spend in mods-- You would quickly start outrunning the 4.7, as mods are really expensive for them and programmers don't work with them...

Message: Stock the 5.2 and 4.7 have about the same output dont they? I haven't driven the 5.2 in a dakota but they seem pretty good even in the rams. My dad's dak has the 4.7 and I like the performance. My 3.9 just doenst have it...not like I've done a lot to it but still. It's either engine swap or I follow in the steps of stroking it and savin up some $ to get that done.

Message: I must be screwed up here. I thought the 5.9 would out run the 4.7 But I get the impression that's incorrect. I do have the 5.2 and I'm very pleased with it. Does anything I ask and a bunch more. Maybe If I was a streat racer like so many in here are I'd realize the 4.7 really is WICKED . So what's real. I never drove a 4.7. Just 5.2 and 5.9. I live at the base of the Rocky Mountains. 8% grade over the pass. My 5.2 runs this at total scare speed. I can barely live with 90 up that curvey pass and feels very close to break away in the corners. The truck will do more but the driver runs out of guts ( that would be me ) .I don't see any reason to have more power then that. And no I don't make a habbit of doing this. Just once was enough.
So many problems .... So little time

Message: I'm lookin to keep my tranny since it's still good so I dont want a 5.9. I'd rather have the 5.2 because my 3.9's like it and I've already worked on it and I know a few things I can get for it already plus my stuff will bolt on over. The 4.7 was only $200 so it was a thought.

Message: The 5.2 is a little torquier down low-- but get the 4.7 winding-- it pulls all the way to 6 hard--
I don't think the 5.2 can keep up--
BUT-- it's probably a better work motor-- hauling n' such-- little more low end
5.9/4.7-- stock for stock-- the 4.7 would prob beat it slightly up til around 75/90 ish range-- then the torque would take over and the 360 would walk away-- never to be seen again..
I had a 4.7 5spd-- and it was fast man-- really--
I rolled a 02 GT Bullitt from 5mph and pulled him worse in every gear thru 3rd-- 1.5 carlengths or so.. With a 4000 lb truck and a 200 lb friend ..

Message: But-- that's all stock-- again, the 5.2 would get to 300+ all motor hp quicker and cheaper, alot cheaper.
360 is a monster with mods--
