Message: GAS WAR - an idea that WILL work
This was originally sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. It ' s worth your consideration.
Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit close to $4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea.
This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.
BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read on and join with us! By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.79 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the
marketplace..... not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.
Here's the idea:
For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.
But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out at this point.... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people.
I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us sends it to at least ten more (30 x 10 =3D 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 =3D 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers. If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE
>>>>HUNDRED MILLION >>>>PEOPLE!!!
Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am, so trust me on this one.)
How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!
I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you?
Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN.
THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

It does sound better than that dont buy gas for a day deal.
This plot acutally uses a little bit of economic theory. Will it work? Perhaps.

Exxon profits up %42.6

Conoko Philips %66.4
Sunoco %61
Valero Energy %99
These are rediculously Large profits. Id like to know what our govenment is doing to tame these numbers. Doesnt seem like they did to much at all in 2005.

That idea will never work for many reasons. First that comes to mind is that it'll just move the profits around from one company to another. You people will still buy gas.
Companies like costco and kroger do not refine their own, they buy from a supplier who buys from whoever (could be conoco, could be exxon, could be shell).
Anyone here familar with the whole Venezula / US (Chavez / Bush) deal? Any BASS fans? Did you know that Citgo is a wholly owned US subsidiary of the country of Venezula?
Sure exxon had 36 billion profit last year, not all came from gasoline. how many people here use mobil 1 synthetic? I do! I am not going to change anytime soon. Keep in mind that exxon also had over 300 billion in expenses (revenue - profit = expenses). That's an ASSTON of expenditures for a single company. Look at the economical impact. If not exxon, the who? Conoco? ChevTex? Shell?
Let's not forget about the growing chinese economy.
2.70-3 is alot less than fuel is in other countries, especially europe.
Just because something is on the internet doesn't mean it's true. some of you need to look at the bigger picture.

Dan is absolutely correct on all points and Elmo, well, what can you say. Maybe he will take economics in college.
The number one thing driving the current price hike is the sabre rattling between Bush and Iran. I hope the oil companies are hoarding oil supplies in case Bush decides that he wants to attack Iran too. Without an oil surplus gas prices would quickly double in the advent of a war with Iran. That of course would also be the fault of the oil companies, right?

The problem with the boycott is easily illustrated in the Bay Area;
We have 5 refineries. My Costco station buys 4 to 6 loads daily. Each load is around 20,000 gallons. In one day they may get gas from 3 different refineries.
Don't get it yet?
The Shell refinery is down for mantaiance or a tanker is late. How do the stations stay open? RIIIGHT!

Quit whinning about the cost of gas, and just quit using as much.
Can't cut back on the amount of gas you use? Fine. Quit buying that stinking Starbucks every day and you can pay for your gas. Pack a lunch instead of eating out everyday. Buy plain old American beer instead of the imported crap.
I don't care who you are, I'll beat I can find something in your budget that you can cut out.
What it comes down to is, quit your stinking whining, grow up, and live within your means. The rest of us adults do just that, it's called being an ADULT.

How much is Starbucks per gallon? I guess that I didn't worry about the relatively high price of gas in 1981 because I didn't have a cell phone bill, cable tv bill, cable internet access, buy bottled water, buy the latest xbox game or any of the other things so many people don't think they can do without today.

I am a representative for MPG-CAP. To give you guys the skinny, it is a $2.00 tablet that you put in your tank at every fillup. It does not CHANGE your gasoline like an additive, rather it goes with your gas to the combustion chamber where it is deposited on valve faces, top of the cylinder, and spark plugs to make the gasoline burn more completely and give you more HP and better MPG. The first 2 or 3 tank fulls you want to use 4 tabs per fillup as a loading phase, then you drop the dose to one cap per 20 gallon fillup. People using the product, like myself, are getting anywhere from a 10-30% increase in MPG. A blister-pack of 10 costs $19.95 plus shipping.
If you are impressed with the product and you want to sell them as well, you can sign up as a rep. too. This IS an young MLM business and these tabs have been sold since late 2005.

Snake oil!
I saw the tests of your product on a TV show the other day. Not very favorable.
According to your web site, it's "a substrate layer of high thermal inertia" that disappears when you stop using the product. Well that's great, but I never found any reasoning for the need of "high thermal inertia."
"it goes with your gas to the combustion chamber where it is deposited on valve faces, top of the cylinder, and spark plugs"
Really? Just what is it that's being deposited?
Is this "substrate layer of high thermal inertia" electrically conductive? If it is, I don't want it on my spark plugs.
What's in it?
Do you even know?
Are the ingredients listed on the package?
What does each ingredient do, once it's dissolved in the gasoline?
Are any of the ingredients, once dissolved in gasoline, harmful to any part of my fuel system: plastic fuel tank, fuel pump internals, rubber hoses, rubber injector o-rings, injector needle valve seats, stainless and aluminum components?

anyways...we have a right to complain because we are being screwed by gas more and more. its sad. have sympathy

What sources say gas will "double by the end of this summer?" Short of Bush starting another war with Iran that's not likely.
And prices are not at a record when inflation is considered. In February 1981, the crude oil price was nearly $17 higher, just under $92 per barrel, in today's dollars.
