Subject: Westin Safari Bar and bumper repainted IP: Logged
Message: As the title states, I got my safari bar on and repainted my front bumper, using out of all things, the same exhaust paint I used to paint my cutout. I liked the finish on the cutout, so I used it for the bumper. It's like a matte black, not glossy, but not flat. It looks great, but has a tad brownish look when it's in direct sunlight. It still looks better than the rust that was there before. I used a power drill wheel designed to remove rust, and it worked perfectly, and saved me a couple hours over hand sanding it. I used some primer, then two coats of paint. Before I reinstalled the bumper, I installed the mounting bracket for the safari bar, and then put the bar on after the bumper was back on. Pics are on my photobucket site below:

Message: Today I accidently "tested" the mount's strength, when I went head first into a mud hole. I could tell that the bar hit the bottom because I could see the mud "scrape" marks on the bottom of the bar. Not actually a scrape, but the mud is stuck in a lined pattern, showing a rub. It's still good, and I can push down on the bar with all my weight, and all that happens is the suspension lowers, as if you pushed down on the bumper. Good design and comstruction!

Message: I second how kick arse Westin bull bars are. I had one installed,,,and not a freak'n hour later my brother smacked our front gate with it. It's saved my front end countless times,,,,well worth it. Unfortunately I rearended a lady at a light - it was totally my fault,,but going like 5-10mph,,Westin ate it,,don't have it on now and feel naked. Just barely bent the guard itself - messed up the brackets. That's the cool part though,,,you buy the bull bar once,,,smack a bunch of stuff,,and just replace the hangers underneath. Cheapo protection,,that actually looks pretty spiffy,,even lowered. IMO

Message: That's the reason I got it. I've seen too many inexperienced drivers at my school trying to parallel park and hit the car behind them. I have the bull bar up front and a nice trailer hitch on the back.
