Subject: 94 dakota with bad tranny good deal? IP: Logged
Message: I have a chance to get a 94 dak 4x4 v8 ext cab with 140k miles for possibly around $2k. but the transmission slips, dont know how bad im am going to look at it in the morning, its at an auction. my question is is how much am looking for a used tranny for it. i can do the work myself so what do used ones go for. anything wlse to look for?

Message: With the OD tranny track record, I'd stay away from used ones, unless you know the owner, and they had a Fairbanks, Superior, or TransGo kit installed early on, and an external cooler. Otherwise, get an exchange unit on eBay for $900, and do the kit/cooler. Or, get a HD kit and do it yourself.
Before you pull anything out, service the tranny that's slipping. Adjust the bands with the fluid and filter. You may get some mileage out of it while you look for a replacement. For the really good stuff, here's where I got mine....
