The two engines are almost identical in every way. The 5.9L has a lot of aftermarket parts available, and the 4.7L is more of a new technology engine that will have a good future ahead of it. Base your decesion on price and availability.

The 4.7 w/ the automatic will be a bit slower however then manual 4.7 or 5.9L auto.

you can get an R/T in a Club Cab, ya know

The 4.7L 5spd with 3.92's are said to be faster with the right driver, but that's only stock, there are a few mods for the 4.7L that bump it up a little. Now the 5.9L has been around since there has been dirt, tons of mods, plenty of power ups.

if all your looking for is speed and can't afford a blower/sc/turbo....just get an R/T

btw....I have a 4.7L just so you know this isn't a bias comment.

The R/T is available in both regular cab and club cab...but not the quad cab. The 4.7 (which I have) is a really quick engine once you hit 2500RPM....but the 5.9 is REALLY quick right off the line....
I'm very happy with my truck (2000 Club Cab sport)and the 4.7 gives me exactly what I'm looking for. If you want balls out, burn your tires up go with the R/T...but keep in mind its a pig on gas and your insurance will go WAY up....
Hope this helps.

for some reason they don't advertize it like the other R/T families. It is an optional package

There are a lot of differences in the 4.7 and the 5.9. The 5.9 is an older motor, using pushrods and a single cam. The 4.7 doesn't have pushrods, but uses OHC instead. There are a lot of techie tweaks on the 4.7, but give it a little time and you'll see that it will be a nice performer...like the 340 back in the day. Not a huge amount of torque..but like the high RPMs and would run all day at 5000....

Crappy gas milage always comes with a big V8 but as far as insurence goes they only list it as a moderatly powered vehicle (thats a good thing though.)

I have talked to seveal people who have 4.7 and kick themselves in the ass for not getting an R/T.

Gas mileage is a joke, a 4.7 aint all that great either. If you are worried about gas mileage GET A HONDA !!!!!

If you can afford it get an R/T !

Driven by the same person you will not notice much of a difference in MPG between the 4.7 and 5.9. My friend just traded in his 2000 ram (5.9L) for a 2002 ram (4.7L) and he said they get the same gas mileage and performance is about the same.

The fact that it's an R/T does not change your insurance. My insurance is almost the same as my girlfriends GMC Sonoma.

They must try to rip you off here in Canada....mine would have been way different...like $400-$600 a year...something like that....GEEZ!!
My truck gets almost the same gas mileage as my 92 lumina with a 3.1 v6.....I've heard some horror stories about the 5.9 and gas mileage....
As far as being concerned about it...I'm not....believe me...with a 474CId BBC in the garage...I'm definitely not concerned about gas mileage... :0)

There are more differences then just the motor. The towing and payload capacities are much higher on the sport with the 4.7 ten the R/T...but maybe you won't be towing or carrying anything in the bed. I do, so thats why I went with the sport.

You should be able to get an R/T for ALOT less then $26,000.I paid 21,900 for a loaded 01'Club Cab R/T,a little over a year ago.The window sticker was like 26,500.But,unless you're buying a Saturn...you'd have to be crazy to pay retail.Shop around a bit, you'll find a good deal.

It's my understanding they did only make 5 yellow 2000 RC R/T's but this has not been made official by any factory numbers. I do think white is one of the rarest colors overall for R/T's though because they made a load of yellow R/Ts in 1999, just not many in 2000. I imagine 2001 Atlantic blue (not intense blue) is pretty rare also as it came out so late in 2001.
