Try some carb cleaner sprayed into the throttle body, then swab with a clean rag. A bottle of STP concentrated injuector cleaner in the fuel tank may help. A dirty throttle body is usually the main culprit in poor idle quality in 4.7's.

Hey Dawn, I was just wanting to get a little better mpg and horsepower and they told me to clean the throttle body and idle air control sensor and believe it or not, I can actually feel the difference in the idle and it just feels smoother.....I guess what I'm saying is that getting a can of BG Throttle Body and Intake Cleaner or something similar, and just spraying it down the throat while it's running might help some..There was a bunch of carbon on mine (2004 4.7 with 29k miles on it) and this stuff just ate it away...There's my 2cents ma'am...

I use seafoam down the TB when I do oil changes. helps keep air intake clean.

also, if you wish, you can pay for an air induction cleaner service. Basically they do the same thing only for longer period of time. some shops even use seafoam in the machines.

The Advance where I shop only has a row or 2 of the seafoam on the shelf, almost everytime I go in I have to ask for it... they always tell me "it's gone? I just put some out." They should stock more on the shelf.

Dawn - isn't your truck still under warranty?

If you want to give it a try Dawn, here are some instructions on cleaning the throttle body on the 4.7L engines.

Dawn, what kind of symptons are you getting before or while your truck is dying? Can't be that many since it's less then a year old, but how many miles do you have on it? I find it hard to believe that a throttle body on a less then 1 year old truck is going to get so gunked up it causes it to die 3 times. Have you taken it back to the dealer and let them have a look at it, all under warranty? I know these guys are just trying to help out, but geez, before you start spraying crap down the throttle body or disassembling it, let someone who should know something about it have a look at it...

Dawn...did you buy it new or used? Just curious as a lot of Katrina vehicles seem to be making their way into the market place.

I work as a tech at a dodge dealer and we have been seeing a lot of EGR valve failures lately. These failures usually set a code and the engine light is on but it could also cause an engine to stall when you come to a stop. On the other hand, if your truck dies out while driving at a steady speed niether the EGR valve or any amount of throttle body cleaning will fix this and you will be looking at a number of other possibilities. It is suprising to hear that you are having this concern with no check engine light as the new diagnostic system on these trucks are EXTREMELY sensitive. Hopefully they can get it to "act up" while they are testing it otherwise it is almost impossible to accurately pinpoint the cause. It is a misconception that the scan tool we use to test vehicles actually tells us what is wrong-nothing could be further from the truth. The scan tool only allows us to read what the computer's sensor readings are, and if the vehicle is running normally we will only see normal readings. Believe me, it is frustrating for us also. Nothing is worse than trying to fix a vehicle for a customer and telling them that we could not duplicate the condition after they have gone out of their way to bring it in for service. So try and be patient and please post what the dealer finds.

Just keep bringing it back to the dealer. That's their job. You paid for the warranty. Forget fixing things yourself.

I have an 03 Dakota. Once while driving to work I notice the odometer acting funny, then reads P-dOne. Long story longer my right knee was hitting my key chain going from gas to brake(has a wide steering column). Had no idea at the time but I was inadvertently checking for codes while driving lol. Moving the switch just enough not to kill it too, weird.I must have a sensitive ignition switch. I took unnecessary keys/rings off the key chain to make it less bulky and it hasn`t done it since. It`s a long shot but maybe you are inadvertently killing your truck this way.

I have a 05 4.7 QC with 37000 miles and have had the same thing happen 2 times it just dies with no service engine codes or check engine lights. it is really frustrating with you pay that much for a vehicle and the dealership cant tell you what is wrong.

Sorry to hear about your problem Dawn. Sounds like it's getting more and more frustrating.
This may seem a little drastic, but you might want to give it back. Maybe purchase an 03 or 04.
If this is giving you problems this early, (one year old) then the truck might incur HEAVY problems later in it's life. When I purchase a vehicle, if it's a newer model or model that's been completely redone, I ussually wait a year or two, a lot of "newer model" fail the first year anyway. If you still want the newer 05 model, do research a year or two from now.

Buzzboy's got a good alternative. I bought A Chevy Avalanche the first week they hit the lots.
Had to have it. Anyway, I was paying like 700.00
a month for this thing, and when problems started I was furious, problem after problem. I MADE the dealer take it back. I got a used Dakota on thier lot. So I researched the Avalanche's a year later and GM fixed about 86% of the flaws I noticed on the one I bought, then returned. I am so glad I'm not stuck with that problem infestated piece if %$#@ anymore.
