Subject: Dodge 231D Transfer Case IP: Logged
Message: I'm rebuilding a 231D off a 97 Dakota 5.2L and when I try to put the housing containing the speedo gear for the rear output shaft, i don't have enough clearance to install the snap ring above the bearing....has anyone encountered this problem and any ideas on a solution? I've broken it down and reassembled it half a dozen times with no luck.....Thanks...

Message: Any chance you got a wrong part or a new part with a defect. It does happen.

Message: Well, I bought the overhaul kit for it which also has parts for the 231J for Jeeps, but I went over and over it to make sure I put the right seals and bearings in the right places...so I believe everything is correct, but of course I could be wrong

Message: Over the years I have run into snaprings and C clips that were a bear cat to get back in place. reason was after installed there was zero clearance. can only be 2 things going on here as I see it anyway. wrong or defective part or really tight fit.
