Subject: SO many question

Message:
Well i have been getting some good info off this website, so i
was wondering if i could get some more. I have a 95 318 4x4
and in the throttle body there are three seneors that run up into
in to it, i know the one in the center of the drivers side is the
TPS, but im not shure of the one that come up the back, or the
one one the left of the TPS. I have a Hollie Throttle body and i
did not put it on, so i dont know which is which.

Next question is, are eather of the two are the mass air flow
sensor. if not where is it. Next is when i turn the throttle by hand
under the hood, she seems very resposive, which i like but not
the same effect when i hit the gas, i know she is not a sports car,
but with all the performce i have i think she would have more
go.

1.K and N Intake
2.hollie throttle body
3 Flow master cat back

Is there anything you would recoment to try or anything to put
on that you all have found that works, like coils or plug, im
going to try truck plugs, and a performence coil and wires.

Thanks Chris

I recommend you do a full cleaning of your throttle body. My 4.7L throttle body was full of a lot of black crap and the IAC plunger couldn't regulate the air at idle. I'd say that one of those other sensors on your TB is an Idle Air Control (I assume they came on those models)and the other is quite possibly the vacuum line going to the air hood. You should also be able to see your throttle linkage on it as well. Not totally sure as I have never worked on a Gen II Dak before w/ the .318. You can probably find instructions online on how to take your throttle body off along with tips to clean it. I would recommend doing it though. It is surprisingly easy to do and you will notice a lot more throttle response.

I agree with you on switching to truck plugs. I have them in my 4.7L and love them. First though, try cleaning your throttle body and see if that helps. Be very careful when cleaning your IAC though. Tilt it so the fluid doesn't go back into the motor and be careful not to turn the plunger or push it in (tips I got from the great people on this board! :) ). I used a soft bristle toothbrush soaked in carb cleaner to clean it.

By the way, I am pretty sure all Chrysler .318's during that time period had Holley throttle bodies. My 97 Jeep had one. Hope this helps. Sorry I couldn't be too specific to your model.

318s don't have a mass air flow senstors they have a MAP(manifold absolute pressure) sensor which sits on the front end of the throttle body and the TPS(throttle position sensor sits on the drivers side though I'm not quite sure where the idle air control motor is it's got to be close to the tps if it's on the throttle body if not follow some of the cables that come off the linkages maybe you'll find it.

get a set of msd super conductor or taylor 8mm wires and an accel coil which is the most powerful coil you can buy for the 318 it is 42,000 volts and is a stock replacement

And thanks for the coil info. i was wondering i want to go with
some stronger spark, and should i use 8mm wire. like Accel or
what ever, sould i use any plug of something specal, i was going

Hello, chris!

Best to take it off the engine. That way you're not washing all that who-knows-what down into the engine! Get a new throttle bdy base gasket for this-- they're not expensive...

Some O.E.M. throttle bodies say "Holley" on them because that's who made them for Chrysler. They are no different from those that don't have the logo. BTW, other Mopar products sport the Holley logo on their TB's too! Can't remember which ones, though...

Get some good lower-resistance 8 mm wires and change your cap and rotor with something good, too (Napa "Echlin" or Autozone "Duralast Gold") and you'll be set (if you think you need something or need to do something, chances are you prob do :-).

In my trials and tribulations, ANY plugs will work fine if they are the number that that spark plug manufacturer calls for... save your flames everyone, let's all agree to disagree on some things! We all do have our favorites!

360 Air Intakez, 52 MM Holley Billet, Ported, Hughes Plenum Plate, Perma Cool Fan, Jacobs Pro Street, Moroso Ultra 40, Bosch 4, Superchips, TPS, CPS, IAT Mods, Dynomax Ultra Flo, Transgo, SLT Trim, Diamond Heads & Corners, Clear Tails, Hood Pins, APC White Gauge, PML Polished Trans & Diff Covers

the sensors are MAP (front opposite cab), TPS and IAC.

Clean it with throttle body and intake cleaner, not carb cleaner. Do be very careful not to damange the plunger.

use seamfoam down the intake, follow directions on can. seafoamsales.com for information. this will clean out the air intake (blow dark smoke out exhaust). You can also take the truck in and pay for an air induction cleaning service.

How many miles are on the truck? Has the timing chain been replaced? That'll definately cause some sluggishnes.

8MM wires are fine for stock, anything more on the performance side and you'll not see much gains unless you upgrade the whole igniton system.

the timing chain is recommend to be replaced at 100k miles. It's a bad thing to have the chain break. Yes it's a pain to get to. check out the howto section here, larry from j&j automotive wrote a howto on changing it. A slack chain will cause timing to be off. a double roller chain is better than a single.

it's about $600+ to get a shop to replace timing chain because of all the work to get to it to remove it. suggestion is to replace the water pump while you are there, you have it off and it's cheap insurance.

You should be able to get seafoam from any auto parts store - napa, advance, orielly, autozone, whatever is in your area.
