HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! We were drag racing (I have a 1996 Dodge Dakota 318 Magnum) and he has a Ford F-150 with the 351 Windsor). We were racing, he swore up and down his bigger truck could beat my littler truck, we were going down the road, I was at 4,500RPM's getting up really quick, I left him behind when all of a sudden he started smoking really bad and stopped. He threw a rod threw the motor trying to keep up with my 318......how funny.

My 92 has a 318, bought it 6 years ago, 91k miles on it. Now, it has 167k+ on it, still going strong. Only troubles were intake manifold gasket, (my truck missed the recall) and my radiator literally BLEW UP (as in, BOOM, spewing hot antifreeze everywhere, split the whole top of the radiator right off). Other than that, I ran it out of oil at about 99k miles, (smoke coming out of the dipstick hole), but I got it checked, and no damage, and it still starts up perfect every time. Runs strong, idles smooth, I LOVE IT!!! These things are bulletproof.

167K and counting......

I bought my 98 Dak about 2 years ago, with 134400 miles on it. In those 2 years I've gotten that up to 157300 miles, and only some minor issues with the engine. Blew the water pump to hell at about 140000, coolant everywhere, belt shredded. It's had regular oil changes every 3000-4500 miles, runs good. Heavy pinging on hard acceleration over 50, but to be honest, it's been doing that since I bought it. Started like a work horse in the cold Maine winters every day without a problem.

Now I just gotta figure out why it sputters and spurts like a whiny biotch whenever i go to start it in the morning after a hard rain.

318 = good

I remember my old 1991 with the 318. Man that truck was tough. It survived my uncle beating the crap out of it by over heating the truck 4 separate times, letting the hood fly up and twisting the hinges like a cork screw, hitting a cement barrier going 35 and slightly twisting the frame. After all that I received the truck with 103,000. I played Dukes of Hazard once and got about 11 feet of air and bottomed out the front tires. The second gear in the transmission stopped working and the truck would shift hard into 3rd. Started around 180,000 and my Dad ran it into a full size Chevy 1 ton going 50 and received little injury. After all that the engine runs fine and smooth. Matter a fact a guy bought the engine and put it in his 1992 Jeep Cherokee.

My 318 has 365K miles and runs great. Uses oil but have no other problems other than I cannot find a 2" suspension lift for 2wd! I put 2" body lift on and now just want to level it. If you have any ideas on a suspension lift please email me at yamahacrash@yahoo.com
