Message: try starting with an electrical check on the fuse and wires going to the pump . If you have power , you need a pump . If you don`t have a tester , remove your gas cap , then your fuel filter , using a rubber fuel line , connect one end to the fuel line coming from the tank , clamp it , and run the other into a gas can , turn the key to the on position , you either have gas , or you don`t . Just be careful if you have to do this!! If you didn`t know , the easiest way to change the pump is to remove the bed of the truck , 6-8 bolts and a few wires , and a little help from a friend to remove it . Good luck

Message: To remove the bed, there is 6-8 bolts and a few wires. So that makes it easier than to drop the tank? I think I am going to disagree with that one because i have personally dropped the tank on my 87 dak. All I had to do is take out 2 bolts to drop it...

Message: your pump is going, and its pretty easy too drop the fuel tank, just make sure it almost empty to make it easier.
on your next fuel pump try not too let your fuel tank get below a quater too much or you will be doing it again.
I know most people run right down to empty before filling up and this cause your pump to draw in air and failing early. the fuel lubes the pump so keep at a quater or more.

Message: Sorry I failed to mention its easier if the tank is full to remove the bed . Some ppl are so fast to pick up on anything left out and everyone has a different opinion , also , the size of the bed can intimidate some . However , note this , its very easy to remove the bed , it takes 1/2 hour to do so , you don`t have to struggle with a 1/2 tank of fuel , you don`t have to drain any gas , you don`t have to break any rusted bolts or straps ,and go through an extra expence replacing bolts and straps , not to mention you can see your connections easily . If one bolt has to be broken , it can be a pain in the butt taking more time than the removal of the bed , not to mention a trip to the parts counter . Size everything up first , you make the decision , you have to do it , not me . Obviously now I know you have an empty tank , are your bolts in good shape ?
