Message: i have a question for anyone who might can answer it. i have a 1997 dodge dakota 4x4 with the magnum v8 and it always sounds like its in four wheel drive by the way it sounds but i had it checked and it is not.what is causing the noise is it the gear ratio someone said it could be please let me know thank you darrel house
Message: Hi Darrel. I have a 97 4x4 also. I had the same noise about 3 years ago, and it turned out to be the pinion bearing in the rear axle. I had to have the whole damn thing rebuilt because I waited too long to have it looked at. Take your truck to a good trans/axle shop, and they should be able to tell you what's going on.
