Just curious to hear some stories about unexpected losses to whatever it may have been that beat you. Now im not talking about getting your doors blown off by a new corvette Z06, that would be expected, but what beat you that you didnt see coming. I have only had my truck for a week so i havnt been smoked yet, but its only a matter of time.

A ford contour....completely destroyed me.....didnt know it was a svt..im not sure if the contours come supercharged but this one was...i was winning in the first couple feet cause he felt it was needed to leave about 10% of his tires on the road!! A true sleeper...I never saw it coming.

that damn PT Cruiser Turbo!! that damn thing smoked the tires through the intersection, than grabbed and left me in the dust!
another one but kinda of expected was a rc hemi ram 4x4 with a dirt bike in the bed & 20in rims. we talked at the light and when the light turn green we went and those hemis rip!! never caught him even at 110mph! it was about a 3 mile race.
easiest one had to be my neighbors 05 ford f-150 5.4.
so so so slow had by 2-1/2 truck lengths by 60mph

those are some good stories, yea those PT turbos are pretty quick and the svt contours come outta nowhere they dont look like they would be that fast. as far as stalling at the start, that sucks, but most of us who have driven/raced a stick have been there.

I have only been beat when I was driving my girlfriend's Ford Probe. I was racing the hell out of it and she didn't know how to utilize overdrive on an auto to 50-100 really quick with a 318. I can beat her car if i'm driving though considering sometimes the tach goes all the way to 5,500 to 6,000RPM's. The redline is at 4,800. This motor seems invincible as far as being overrevved. Anyone else have a fast stock 318? All I have on it is a K&N airfilter and Iridium plugs.

BTW, I have a 1996 Dodge Dakota SLT 5.2L V8 with 74k miles, and I was wondering why the throttle body has the Holly V8 logo on it? Is it a high-performance version of the 318?

I was blown away by an early 90's cadillac sedan lol. this thing was a hoopdy that must have had a rebuilt engine. suprised the sh*t out of me. probably that 4.2 v8? i think they were 4.2's, idk. but it sucked.

Anyone else had rock stability with their 318 as far as overrevving, abuse, etc? I do keep it up as far as oil changes, etc. though.

This is embarassing, but I was 17 so it's okay. I pull up behind a honda "wannabe" fast n' the furious. He is at the red light putting his wok on high and really burning some rice... So me, being the show off I am, rev up too. Well when the light turned green I passed him and got about 10 ft in front of him and I stall.. I turn the key and she starts up again, then stalls...
Turns out I was running on fumes and I ran out of gas in the middle of the road. Since then I have never let my tank go below an eighth of a tank.
*cries in embarassment*

I've got a '93 Dak with the 318...It's been a champ taking my occassional abuse. It's still got some balls yet!! I met up with some guys who were into tuning their cars and took pride in speed. Well, I easily beat the pants off of one's Ford Ranger, but unfortunately I got wasted by about a car's length by a Hyundai Tiburon. The guy is now one of my good friends, but someday I will beat him... :)

The most recent was a jacked up 4X4 Ram Cummins. Really new looking.
I was romping my truck a bit late at night. Seemed to keep hitting red lights. Finally he gets besides me and twice he didn't bite.
The THIRD time he goes! I nailed it but he was already a couple truck lengths in front of me by time I realized he went for it. I floored it and by 60 or so I STILL didn't catch up. Seemed to be pretty even.
I don't know if I really LOST since I started late. But it still bugs me because it LOOKED liked he smoked me. :(
Those new Deisels are fast though!
I can take a (stock) QC Hemi to 60 before I can take a Deisel Ram!

I got beat recently by a late 90's Camry. My wife has a Camry (4 cyl.), so I thought it would be an easy beat. As he pulled away from me I saw his V6 badging on the back of his car. DOH! Those things are fairly quick with the V6!
