Either way works. It's all in what you prefer.
The Dakota has a "returnless" system, but actually the return is at the fuel regulator mounted to the fuel tank.
Instead of putting the fuel pressure regulator at the fuel rail and running a return line back to the tank (like so many other car makers do), Dodge mounted it to the tank. Cheaper that way.
