Message: If it was anything like mine (2000 Dak), the clamps that were on it actually crimped the pipe/muffler together. I don't think there is a way to really get it uncrimpled without becoming intimate with a sledge hammer. You'll probably just need to cut it off and have the new one welded on. If the muffler is shorter than the stock one, you'll need an extra piece of tubing to fill the gap. You can either weld it all back on (easiest as it makes sure you don't leak) or get new clamps. Personally, I'd just take it to a Midas or Meineke (sp?) and have it done so you don't burn the crap out of yourself like GraphiteDak does every time he decides to weld on his dual exhaust. ;)

Message: "intimate with a sledge hammer" is right LOL!
the best tool to have is a sawzall and cut the stock muffler off right where it mounts. i used the clamp that was holding the exhaust and muffler on. that has held the exhaust on fine with no leaks no problems. i off-road the truck regularly and haven't had any problems so the clamp is enough. your gonna want some good penetrating lube or motor oil to break those rusted bolts lose. careful tenting them cause the bolts tend to break.
good luck
