Subject: hesitation on takeoff IP: Logged
Message: My 99 Dakota 4x4 with the 318 hesitates badly when I pull away from a dead stop. If I really jam on the gas, then it catches immediately. But anything less, and it hesitates for a second or two, then catches. What's going on with this thing? It has to be an engine problem. Fouled up plugs? Throttle body? ?? It had a blown belly pan gasket which I fixed two months ago.

Message: i have that same truck. it did the same thing when i bought it at 60,000 miles. i changed the plugs, caps, rotor, wires, cleaned TB with seafoam, sea foamed the gas tank, cleaned K&N filter that came with it, and changed tranny fluid and filter. all is finally well now. good luck. Just put a new starter on too at 94,000 now. when your idling, always put it in neutral this helps to move fluid around in the trans, stopped some of that hesitation crap it was doing too.

Message: cap* I also replaced the torque converter too at 78,000 and with a better seal. I think it might have been the converter and a dirty valve body causing hesitation. But it was probably all of those things contributing. Installing new shocks this weekend and it should ride like new again.......hopefully.

Message: I did the TPS too, but found it was the torque converter after.
