Subject: Heater blower problem IP: Logged
Message: My heater fan only comes on when I have it in the max fan position. When it's turned all the way to the 4th setting (max blow). It doesn't matter if I turn on the a/c or turn down the heat or change it from vent to defrost. The blower only comes on when I turn the fan dial to the max.
2002 3.9 swapped to a 360 supercharged in october, 5spd sport 4x4
Now I did have 1 code from the swap which occurred 1494 (I think) Leak pump detection or something. When I reset the battery (after the heater failed) the code went away and never came back.
If anybody has an idea let me now, I'll check all the fuses (doubt it, but what the hell) and check behind the dash to see if maybe I broke the switch.

Message: There is a resistor that controls the fan speeds via your switch. When it burns out all you have is high speed left. there has been cases of bad or burnt wires on the resistor also. It should be located behind your jocky box I think. Someone should answer that for you . Differant years have differant locations.
So many problems .... So little time

Message: It's your blower motor resistor and cost less than 12 bucks from the dealer. Located under the passenger side dash near the vent. Google "blower motor resister Dodge Dakota" on google and it will bring you back to some threads on this site. Common problem and easy do to yourself. Don't take it to the dealer....unless you don't like your arms or your legs because that's what it will cost you.

Message: Yep, everyone is absolutely right. My fan only worked on high. Took it to dealer. The repair bil stated that they replaced the resistor. $75. I foumd out later that it was a $10 part located behind the glove box. Live and learn!
