Message: I finally got a price quote to have the cutout welded in...$79+!!!!I guess I will be clamping it in then. I found these on Summit which will make it easy to clamp in.

Stainless won't rust either.

Message: Yikes! $80 to cut a peice of pipe out, and weld in another peice? *-BS-* I only spent double that for a whole stainless cat-back.
Man...this thread is getting huge!

Message: I ordered the Safari bar/mounting bracket along with the cutout w/ u-bolt clamps included. I'm just going to slip-fit the cutout and if I need the special band clamps for pipe clearance I'll buy them later. That would be an extra 40$, so I figured I'd try it the slip-fit way first. The cutout should be on by the end of next week hopefully. And the safari bar probably in a month or two (maybe sooner, but I have to repaint my front bumper that is begining to rust).

Message: I got the stuff from summit via FedEx, and will have to think of a way to fit the cutout between the cat and muffler. The problem is that there's a bend in the pipe, so I might clamp it in temporarly and have a friend at my school bead weld it so it doesn't leak badly due to the cutout being slanted between the lower and upper pipe.
Any recommendations are appreciated.

Message: I'll definately report back. I have a friend w/ a 4.6L F150 who just bought a flowmaster 40 series original (same guy that I'll ask to weld it). That should sound nice (mustang-ish), but not as loud as mine as soon as I get this cutout installed. This weekend I have to drop by brother off at Va Tech, so I will have to wait till the weekend after to try and get this installed.

Message: I thought about it and measured every possible dimension and have figured out how I'll do it. I'll use two small (2-3")pieces of flex pipe I bought from Advance, and use that to replace the whole pipe from the o2 sensor to the muffler inlet. I drew a full scale diagram and it'll work. I'll have to wait till next weekend to do it though.

Message: POST 1
Went to advance today and got 3 extra muffler clamps so I can start working whenever I feel now. I picked up two 2.5" ID connectors which I thought would adapt two 2.5" ID pipes, but they are made for OD, so I can't use them (not a big loss, they were only 1.88$). I cut the flex pipe to the correct lengths with a hacksaw (I really need a sawzall) and cleaned up the cuts with a file. I placed the pieces and cutout over my diagram and it fits (barely, but it does fit). I went to advance originally for the clamps and to pick up a piece of 2.5 OD pipe instead of reusing pieces from the stock exhaust, but they didn't have anything over 2", so I picked up the connectors instead. (no big loss) so I'll just clean up and use two pieces I'll cut from the stock exhaust I'm cutting out. This thing is going to look so ghetto but I don't care. Who's looking under my truck anyways? I just want it to be functional and rust resistant.
Things are going smoothly so far...
POST 2
I just got back from Advance again and exchanged the connectors with reducers. I cut the 2.5" OD half off the reducers and am using that instead of reusing the old rusty stock pipe. I will snap a couple pics after I finish cutting the other reducer in half.
I hope my dad realizes (and appreciates) how much I want this cutout for all the thinking and puzzling work I have to do to get this sucker on there!
In the end I just don't want to spend a whole lot of money trying to do this and so far I've spent 22.95 for the cutout, 5.88 for the flex pipe, 3.76 for the two reducers, and the extra three clamps cost me about 8 bucks. I'm still well under the more than 79 dollars it would have cost me to weld it in. ( I don't like being ripped off)
POST 3
I finished the whole thing, all that's left is to put it on the truck. I'll snap a few pics after I put it on. That'll be next weekend though.
I've worked all day on this thing and I need a break!
I'll post updates as they come.

Message: I found out from a couple friends that are in autoshop and they said that I could bring the truck in and they could weld the cutout in for me. I'll ask them all about it tomorrow at school. I might not even have to use any clamps at all.
I'll report back tomorrow afternoon.

Message: I was wondering if there would be any problems with me taking a hacksaw to my tailpipe right next to my spare tire after it comes down a litte after the axle? I just want to get rid of the chrome tip and rusty tailpipe. I like the look of no exhaust pipes visible. Any thoughts?
I swear I'll get that cutout installed soon! It's taking longer than planned since I've had a lot of stuff going on in school.

Message: Here's a pic of what I want to do. I got a copy of the law about exhaust, and it says it has to exit at the back or side of the vehicle, so I think it's ok since it still exits in that area (not before the axle) and it says that it will pass inspection without a muffler, but it is illegal to not have one. (it also said they can't fail it due to sound levels). That means my cutout should be ok. OK here's the pic of what I want to do.

Message: Actually I changed my mind, and don't want to test the law. I'm thinking of cutting the pipe just before the chrome tip, so it will be cut about even with the inside of the wheel well. It will be a lot less visible, and what's visible of the pipe should blend in with the rest of the suspension and axle.

Message: Well I'm going to cut the tip off today or tomorrow, and I just finished putting 4 coats of black high-temp duplicolor paint on the cutout. I will be seeing the autoshop teacher sometime next week to get the cutout welded in, and will be putting the safari bar on the week after during my spring break.

Message: I saw an emissions inspector and he said that my exhaust must exit at the outide of the vehicle, not under at all. Which means that I can't cut the tip off. I just basically removed it and now I'm back to the non-showy stock pipe. I just found out that the flowmaster I have is offset inlet/outlet and it's bending the pipe downward before the muffler. That means that I can cut the pipe myself, remove the factory bend, and clamp it in how I want. If it leaks badly, then I can take it to my autoshop teacher to have it welded.

Message: Saw two more inspectors yesterday and they both explained the law to me. Since it's a pickup, the exhaust has to exit behind the cab for the safety inspection, and it must exit in a place that is easy to access for emissions testing. That means that I'm going to go ahead and cut the section of pipe off behind the back tire. Cutout will be put in next wednesday along with the westin safari bar.

good luck with the cutout, are you going to put it in right before the muffler?

Message: Yeah. I'm putting the cutout right after the downstream oxygen sensor, right before the muffler. I wish our state did like some are doing now for OBDII vehicles. I heard some are just plugging in to the diagnostic port to make sure the cat's working and everything else is ok. If my state did that, I'd go out and buy a turndown right now. But, right now my state does the sniffer test which means it has to be in a location they can get to easily.
