Subject: how do i tighten the nut on the fan? IP: Logged
Message: I replaced my water pump the other day and also had to put a new radiator in it. The fan was pretty simple to get off as i just turned the nut but how do i get it to tighten? I tightened it as tight as i could go but the pulley keeps turning. I am running the truck now but i dont want the fan coming off and ruining my new radiator. Thanks.

Message: I don't know if your '96 is like my '98, but I had to get a special tool to remove, and replace the fan. There's two parts to it. There's a wrench that fits around the bolts for the pulley, and another to tighten the fan while you keep the pulley from moving. Autozone has it as one of their loaner tools.

Message: The fan will tighten itself...
I have removed and installed my clutch fan a few times and I just spin it on by hand and go with it.
If autozone has a spanner for it though, go for it. Won't cost you anything.

Message: The same way you replace a blade on a tablesaw. Use a piece of wood to keep the fan from turning while you tighten the nut/nuts

Message: jerry...come on now.
The fan has a viscous clutch, block of wood ain't gonna cut it.

Message: You can get the nut on the fan all torqued off by kicking him in the arse when hes bent over and trying to screw the fan clutch back onto the water pump...
Seriously, it will tighten itself as you drive ;-P
