How serious can you afford ? How about starting with hotter cams and lower gears ?

www.krcpreformance.com

they have about anything and everything for building up the 4.7. but like Kow said it depends on how much money your willing to spend. cams gears are a starter. a 68 to 70 MM TB. for me my truck is fine as I am only looking for mild upgrades. like HO cams and superchips programer. I got the programmer on order right now.

Your Quad Cab weighs weighs around 4250 pounds empty, shane, or about 300 more than a Club Cab, and 500 more than a Regular Cab of the same specs. A 3:92 (or higher numerical) rear gear will help more than anything, considering the weight, (assuming you have a 3:55). HO cams (leave the '01 intake on), at least a K&N or equal drop-in filter, Magnaflow or similar Y-pipe, Hi-flow catalytic converter, and freer-flowing muffler and exhaust helped my '01 4.7. I also have a self-ported 68mm throttle body, and use Bosch 4418 plugs, and mix 2/3 87 octane with 1/3 93, Mobil1 5w30 and Amsoil synthetic rear fluid. No complaints about performance, but that's why I bought a 5-speed 3:92LSD Regular Cab anyway.

If the pump has one hose just get 89,it`s the same as "2/3 87 octane with 1/3 93". Most, if not all, gas stations just have 87 and 91/93 and mix the two through the pump to get 89 anyways.
