Message: The cat is now 12 years old. Replacing it would probably improve power and throttle response a little, just because of age.

Message: It would increase your power by a little. The sound is worth it though. Mine is very deep and crisp with a 40 series, headers, and a carsound cat. You should be fine with the stock exhaust and just a Muffler unless you want a dual out exhaust then you could go with a cat back system. The real restriction is the Y-pipe. After sticking in the JBA Y-pipe I noticed a significate increase in power and sound. But I also had the rest of the exhaust opened up also.
