I was reading about the 03 Auto Show in the latest Hotrod magazine. I wouldnt count on the Hemi being in the Dakota atleast anytime soon. From what I read in there, they said the Hemi will be released in 03' but it will only be offered in the Dodge Rams. I guess they're scared all of that power would spoil the people with lighter vehicles. *shrugs*
I guess now we look beyond chapter 03' and look towards 04' and hope.

I just got back from the Dodge Dealer. I asked the Service advisor if Dodge was going to put the 5.8 Hemi in the Dakota. He said that he had heard that it was not going to happen because Mercedes did not want a truck out running their $150,000 "sports cars".
He said the 5.9 was still going to be available and was going to be in the Dakota R/T (still only with auto transmissions).
Who knows if he knows?

I had always heard it was a 5.7... but, I dont know. My dad works for chrystler and he hasnt really heard anything about it at all. Nothing on Dhimaler/Chrystler TV or anything from the venders.

Ya know they keep showing all of those rams with those huge hemi crate motors... well, not exactly a hemi but for instance the Ram SRT. 0-60 in 5 seconds. Looks awsome, performance like mad, but imagine if it was in the more aero dynamic lighter weight Dodge Dakota. It just doesnt make sence why they would want to waste all of that power(unless its pulling power) on something that heavy and sits about as wide as a semi. Only thing I can figure is they want the fastest full-size pickup truck rather than the fastest pickup truck period. *shrugs* I wouldnt see why they wouldnt offer both vehicles in the hemi anyway. More interested in selling rams I guess. Nothing wrong with the ram at all, so dont get me wrong, just doesnt bode well with me being a Dakota owner and all.

I know the Ram SRT is the viper V10 but I was just using that as an example of how the power is wasted by weight.

I completely agree. Dodge obviously is interested in having the SRT line dominate the other brands. The question still remains, what will happen to the Dakota SRT? If there ever is one?

The word is that the Dakota is gone in a couple years. The chances that they are going to put the Hemi in it are slim. Just from what I have read.

Well, it would be nice if they had like a limited addition Dakota with the Hemi in it, like the 5.9 R/T. If they are indeed going to wrap up Dakota production in the near future then they could make the Hemi-DakR/T like a final production year thing for the Dakota. That way it really wouldnt interfer with Ram sales, and we'ed be left with a kickass grand-finale Dakota to drool over. :P

I read in Truckin' mag that the 04' dakota is going to have a 5.7 HEMI MAG as a opsition so look for some big hp for this truck i mean out runin' the lighting fords and be on the look out for the viper V-10 rams with is going to kick some major ass.

The 2004/2005 F150 Lightning is slated for 500 HP, so I really doubt that the 2004/2005 Hemi Dakota with 345 HP will stand any real chance at all.

I spoke to the dodge people at the DC, auto show and they told me and everyone there : hands down hemis in the dakota and the full fleet in a couple of years! the dakota will be redesigned with a hemi.

I was under the assumption that the 5.7 hemi motor was a direct replacement for the 5.9L? The only difficulty that the swap would have would be linking the 5.7 to the tranny.

It is my belief that the 5.7 is the replacement for the 5.9. Just as the 4.7 replaced my little ol' 5.2. The 5.9 is being phased out by the 5.7 so I would think that the dakota WILL be getting the Hemi!! If it does not the only v-8 avaliable for the dakota will be the 4.7. I can not believe that dodge would let that happen. The dakota will have the Hemi, It is only logical. Like I said the 5.9 is being phased out of the entire product line. The 5.7 is being phased in.
It is in my belief the question is not "if" but "when".
And when this does happen I shiney new truck will be parked in my driveway!

Swampdak, it was a great truck. I had it for 4 days. I took it into the snow, up hills and off road... couldn't get it stuck. The wheels won't spin (course, this means you can't burn the tires) due to the electronically controlled throttle and traction. Very quick, responsive, and for such a big truck, easy to negotiate traffic. That engine sounds soooo nice.

Well if dodge dosn't put the hemi in the dakota i'll freaken do it my self i don't care if i have to adapt the hole ram drivetrain im puttin a 5.7 in my dak by the time im done college!
The hemi is suppost to be 200lbs lighter and 10% more effecient then the ancient 360, oh yeah its more powerfull too, but it'll cost you a furtune in sparkplugs, haha
