Subject: Rear differential trouble IP: Logged
Message: I took my 01 EC 4x4 into shop for a 60k check up. When tech got to changinging rear diff. fluid he found broken clutch pin pieces in the transfer case. My truck has 68000 miles and it seems to me that the mechanical aspect of a differential should last a heck of a lot longer than that. Chrysler won't do anything, but tell me that their vehicles are only good for 36,000 miles and then after that, tough luck.
I believe this to be a manufacturing defect and am curious if anyone has come across or heard of same or similar problems.

Message: If what you are talking about are the clutch pack retainer clips they are of no consequense as long as they don't get caught in the ring/pinion mesh.
Their only purpose it to hold the clutch pack together druing assembly. Once the packs are in place the retainer clips do nothing except break after time.
As long as the LSD unit is still LSD'ing there is no need for a rebuild because of these clips breaking. Hope this helps.
