Subject: Is this engine the high output model?

Message:
I ran a carfax report on a dakota that I'm interested in buying, and it says it has the 4.7L V8 SMPI OHV. I'm a dummy when it comes to cars and engines, is this the High Output or regular V8? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I can't find an answer anywhere. Thanks for your help.

That looks like your standard 4.7L V8 model. The letters stand for SMPI (standard multiport injection) and OHV(overhead valve). If it was a high output it would most likely say 4.7L H.O.

and FYI... SMPI stands for SEQUENTIAL multi-POINT injection.

No dakota until 2005 had an HO 4.7.
