I have an 02 Dakota QC 4x4. I have been having this spuratic drain on the battery and started to trace down a short. I found the circuit that is shorting out is the one that runs the interior lights, radio, tail lights, etc... I have been pulling the fuse for that from under the hood everynight and that stops my battery drain. Well last night I forgot to pull the fuse and this morning I had a dead battery again. The battery is brand new just for the record. So today I pulled the seat and the carpet out to start looking for shorting wires. This is what I found....Under the drivers side kick plate one of the wiring harnessess that plug into the computer looking thingy has been rubbing on one of the kick panel attachment clips. The clip is all rusted and corroded and the wire loom had rust stains on it. I pulled the plug for this wire loom and the interior lights go out....I thought I found my short....so I cut the loom open to find my bare wire.......upon inspection none of the wires appear to be cut or damaged in anyway.....just some rust stains on the wire. Is it possible for the wire to arch through the plastic coating and cause my short? There are 12 wires wrapped in this loom.....How can I determine which one may be my problem? Thanks in advance.

It don't surprise me none. Yet another DODGE problem. It is only expected to have problems when you own a Dodge. I have owned a few of Dodges so called fine trucks and the next one is always worse than the one before. I currently drive an 04 Dakota. This one has lots more problems than my 01 had. I am going to go check the wires behind my kick plate just to be on the safe side though. Good luck with your truck

Do you have an underhood light on that circuit too ? First thing I'd check.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

If you had a short you would be blowing fuses. You have a voltage draw which can easily be diagnosed with a test light or amp clamp. Disconnect every load on that circuit one at a time until there is no draw.

Yet you keep buying dodge. If they're so bad don't give DC any more of your money. There is a saying for this. "Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me."

I buy Dodges for one reason. My Sister and Brother In-Law are part owners with my Brother In-laws parents on a dodge dealership. I by my trucks at such a huge discount it would be stuipid to buy anything else and pay outlandish prices.

then don't bash something you get a huge discount on. if you really hate dodge. then even with the discount you would buy something else.

Right that, Dark Jedi.

I buy Dodge because the darn things run and last so well. Maybe why I haven't had to buy very many. Certainly less than "a few".
