Truck has run great since we got it EXCEPT for one thing. I'll start from the beginning. Truck was still under warranty when I bought it. No codes have ever been stored. Normally when you get to your destination you put you vehicle from Drive to Park, when you do this the rpms will fluctuate ever so slightly. Sometimes when I put my truck into park the rpms will go up and then way down (below 500 rpm) and almost stall and then back up to idle. Also we found that sometimes when going from reverse to drive the truck flat out stalls, no check engine light, no rpm variation, just dies. Put it in park fire it up and it is fine. Dealer checked codes, checked service bulletins, replaced tranny filter, did emissions service bulletin. This all was about a year ago. Now the truck is not under warranty and it has started doing all this again. RPM's fluctuate when putting the truck from drive to park and twice in the last month the truck has died when shifting from reverse to drive. Any ideas?

I have a 2000 4.7 automatic with 65,000 miles. The last couple of years my idle would regularly bounce between 550-1100 rpm when at a stop (this is with the a/c off. with a/c on it would bounce between 750-1100). Eventually it stalled on me at stoplight. I replaced the TPS (throttle position sensor on the throttle body) about 3 months ago and the idle has been perfectly steady since. Cost less then 20 bucks and about 5 minutes to swap the TPS out. Not sure if the TPS is your problem as well, but it might be worth checking. Good luck...

I have seen the TPS issue before, but it doesn't sound like your problem. You'd notice it hunting gears whenever you hit a small bump and so forth due to the TPS getting very sensitive.

This RPM thing is pretty common with the 4.7. I don't know of any great fix, though some have had the dealer flash the PCM. I, for one, am totally against this because often enough, dealer flashes will kill power or change some other parameter that can cause other annoyances.

Unless it gets really annoying or repeatable, I'd live with it. Mine does it very occasionally, though the SuperChips I just got seems to have fixed me up.

Someone else may have a better fix for you.

tell me more about the superchips. Is this an actual chip that goes into your computer? I have read that other people have used the superchips to solve this stall/idle problem. How does it solve the problem? Can I still tow with this product? Can I still run 87 octane? Will this shorten the life of the truck at all? I am seriously thinking about investing in one but have no idea how they work or what they do.

I might be dirty fuel injectors. You can check them with a multi meter. Do a search online to find out how to check them or buy the service manual.
