Message: Ive got a 02 Dak with a 3.9. I know its not the eight but i had a question for the R/T guys. My question is a 99 R/T with 98,000 miles on it for 7,999 whats the point on the 5.9s when there engines arent as capable as they were when they had less miles on them. Iam loooking to use the truck for track only and not as a daily driver. Iam willing to give the engine an overhaul if needed planning to change every fluid in it to. Is this a good deal for an R/T or should I keep looking around for something with less miles.
Thanks for the help.

Message: The 5.9's are pretty tough engines when properly maintained. At 98,000 miles I would be more worried about the transmission than the engine. The price seems a bit high for the mileage. If your going for a true track truck, argue them down for the high mileage and then rebuild the engine your self, maybe even stroke it to 408.

Message: I just noticed theres a person on the members general forum selling 99 SY CC RT with 98,000 miles for $6,200. Probably not in your area, but a good reference price.

Message: mattleg is right on the money about the transmission. My '00 R/T tranny died around 87,000. It's such a "He-Man Woman-Hater's" truck I didn't mind at all having it rebuilt! When I get the cabbage, I'm planning to put a new 360 crate motor with more horsies in it - my wife doesn't know it yet :)

Message: I bought my 99 rc r/t with 81,000 miles for $6850. Now, like mattleg said, transmission is what you should worry about. I bought a 3 year, 30k mile warranty for mine which would put me up to 111k miles. I've noticed my transmission is kinda acting up so I'm hoping it does go out so I can pay the $100 deductible and get a brand new one. You could always buy the truck, get a warrranty, thrash it to death, and get a new tranny. Just an idea.

Message: I forgot to say the warranty cost $1100, but that has already paid for itself. When I bought it from the dealer, they didn't realize a few things wrong with it. For one, a bolt on the caliper was stripped, causing an nasty clunk when turning, and the speedometer was messed up on it. Total bill was right about $1000, I only paid the deductible. Now transmission is going out, only another $100 deductible.
