Subject: ?Vibration & noise while towing @ 1speed IP: Logged
Message: Weird one,,, 01 Q-cab Dak, 4.7, auto, 3.55
Any ideas what could be the cause of a low frequency noise and slight vibration while towing at a certain speed? This noise is a low frequency growl, similar to running over a patch of highway that has been patched with gravel or other ruff surface. It it barely audible in the cab and causes a very faint vibration in the floor boards. This noise happens for 1/2second then it's gone for 1/2s, then it comes back for 1/2s, and it repeats this as long as I'm in this speed range. It speeds up slightly with speed. It's not high pitch like you'ld expect from gears/bearings,,,
- Happens only when drivetrain is under moderate to heavy load, ie twoing.
- Happens between 90 to 100kph (55 to 60mph)
- happens in 4wd or 2wd
- it's related to ground speed not engine RPM
- it is not affected by engine RPM (O.D. on or off = same noise).
- goes away completely when you let off gas.
- very tuff to reproduce it without trailer.
- didn't do it last year. This year I had the LSD repaired do to bearing clips, so may be related to repair.
Any thoughts appreciated. I'm thinking diff or u-joints, driveshaft??? Ideas? Thanks.
