I have a 2001 Dakota 4.7L. The transmissiojn is shifting really hard occasonally, and the dealer says it is the Timing Module. Of coarse, the warranty doesn't cover it, although it does cover the worn out front shocks??????
Anyway, I have the opportunity to buy a new OEM control module for $50. Only thing, it's was bought for a RT 5.9L. Will this fit my truck, or do I need to buy one specifically for the 4.7L?
Better yet, will this even fix it the shifting problem. I just had it completely flushed about 300 miles ago, so the fluid is clean. Any other ideas?

Your truck is still under warranty?
Dealers are b$stards. They tried to get me for some "maintenance" things recently on our 2004 Caravan WHILE we had it in for warranty, but I said NOPE on the extra work :) so they wound up still fixing problems covered by warranty anyway otherwise I'd have paid them an additional $500 for things THEY say needed to be done like cleaning the TB, Alignment, rear brakes (That are still good). Caught them on the brakes when AFTER they mentioned the brakes needed to be replaced, they called back to ask where the lug nut lock key was so they could pull the wheels! :)
Anyway. Maybe try clearing your PCM and then driving it around a few blocks. I know them tranny's can be retrained I hear.
I think you start from a stop giving like steady throttle and allowing it to upshift through each gear. Doing that over and over. Then stepping in it from steady speeds to do downshifts.
I know that was what they said on the Caravan tranny I was working on from my aunt, maybe the same thing for our 5-45RFE as well.
Although I have cleared my PCM and my tranny shifted fine from the get go. Mine is integral with the TCM as well, yours has a seperate TCM from the PCM I have heard.

I bought the truck used, it only has 60,000 miles on it. I got a 3 month/3000 mile warranty with it, "limited" warranty of coarse.
Well, they won't replace the whining fuel pump, even though the service guy said it was inevitable and was louder than any other he has ever heard that was still actually working, said it had to go out completely and die before it could be fixed under warranty. (Any one know how to burn it up in the next 4 weeks?) Ha!
The timing module is bad, which is not under warranty, that controls the trans, which is covered under the warranty, go figure.
Good news though, the front shocks that are worn out, well, that's a warranty thing, and they are replacing them????????
Dealer also said my trans fluid was filthy and really needed to be replaced/flushed. Told them that I had it flushed by another Dodge dealer only the week before, not just changed, completely flushed, his response was only that the tech said the fluid was dirty, and that's all he knew. I talked to the guy who changed it at the first dealer and he said the little magnet in the pan was very clean, showed no signs of wear when he serviced it, so I don't see it getting that dirty in only 300 miles or less.
Well, thanks for the help. Anyone else need a Timing Module for a 5.9L RT, there's a new OEM on eBay for $50 Buy It Now!

1st suggestion would be to try a DEALER #2, maybe in hopes to win YOUR business, they will go out of their way to do what the other dealer did not!

Yeah. Put 115VAC to the pump. Except the fact that it is submerged in gasoline. Although maybe nothing would happen in an oxygen free environment. But I'd still be spooked (gasoline tanks NEVER EVER blow up like in the movies! they just catch fire and burn as the vapors escape.)
Good luck. I'd get that TCM fixed before damaging an awesome tranny.
Maybe the SuperChips would program that thing?
I dunno about the early version like yours with the seperate TCM, but my 5-45RFE barks the tires during WOT shifts after I got my programmer :)

Erom what I have read, these fuel pumps burn themselfs out when trucks are run out of gas > But as I understand it, the pump my keep working for a few months and when it does go out the owner has no clue why > With yours sounding so bad , running it out of fuel may be all it would take to finish it off > On your tranny, consider sticking valves in the valve body >

The gas is what cools the pump.... running it dry just may overheat it. I just had to do my pump..2000 4.7 86000 kms.

Tell me about it!!! The friggin truckk is in for a heater core right now as well. It is a 2000 but i baby this thing (minus the track of course) and only drive in winter when i have too. I just don't get it. BTW i never let my fuel get below 1/4 tank either. It seemed like as soon as i had the mother paid off things started breaking.... sure hope its done for a while.

Alright, thanks for all the advice. I have an update.
Called the dealer today, wanted to cross reference the CTM number from eBay just to make sure. Of coarse, it will not fit. It was $50 buy it now, mine costs $240 from the dealer.
Well, I told the parts guy that the transmission wasn't changing that bad yet, and when it did, it was only intermittently. Besides the fact that with just getting over the Christmas financial shock, I would just wait for a while. His reply was "That doesn't have anything to do with the transmission". I told him a tech at his dealer told me it was causing my trans to shift hard and jerk sometimes, and needed to be replaced. He said as far as he knew it didn't control that, and that techs opinions are like doctor's, I need a second opinion. He asked if my door locks, windows and lights are working right, I said yes. He just said "Hum", maybe you should get a 2nd opinion.
Does anyone know for sure if this does or does not control the trans shifts before I sink all this money into it??????????????????????????

The timing module you are describing and what the last person referenced with the door locks etc is in the drivers kick panel. This computer has NOTHING to do with any powertrain components. It controls most if not all of the in-cab electronics.
00-02 4.7 Dak's have separate engine and transmission computers. The ECM is on the passenger fender, the TCM is behind the passenger headlight. 03 and newer have the two integrated and I think they are on the passenger fender.
These transmissions will adapt shift characteristics to the driver in case you didn't know. Try unplugging the connectors on the ECM and TCM (or just pull the battery terminals for a bit) to reset them and drive it around for a while.
Try to pinpoint the circumstances at which it shifts hard. 1-2, 2-3, 3-2 shift? Tranny cold/cool? so on and so on
