Subject: 5-45RFE coasting around turns IP: Logged
Message: Anyone have problems with their tranny "coasting" when you go around a turn. Then when you give the gas it revs a bit and then jerks back in gear. I've noticed my 03 QC 4.7 did this all along but the worst was last night when I was coming home when pulled onto my street. I was going to stop at the mail box at the top of the street so I coasted around the turn and slowed a bit but then decided to wait until today so I easily got back on the gas and it revved little bit then it clunked back in.
That can't be good for the tranny.....

Message: I know with my 03 it does this revs a lil before going back in gear. also when on the highway I can let off and then press the gas a lil the rpm willl raise a lil then go back down. mine has always done this but never clunked back in to gear unless I WOT then it will slam in to gear but due to it down shifting.

Message: hmm... what Jecht says is NORMAL. When you let off and touch the throttle again they normally release the lockup and engages again. Most tranny's do that.
But if it is as bad as Gus says, there is something wrong.
Check the simple first though, like LOW on fluid will do strange things like that.
Is it an actualy CLUNK and not just a normal shift into lockup? Or does it actually rev up a bit and jump into gear? Coming out of lockup briefly would only be maybe 200 or so RPM difference but not like it's in neutral.
If it's popping out of gear, it will rev up way more than that. Let us know how mush it revs when letting off at a constant speed and then touching the throttle again.
Going slow around a corner say in a neighborhood may be more difficult to explain. Depending on how much throttle you touch, it would probably drop from 3rd (when coasting) to 2nd or 1st and be normal as well.

Message: No problems on the highway when locked up. When I let off the gas and press it again, rpms raise a bit and come back to normal.
It's just slowing without stopping and turning onto another street it seems like it's in neutral for a second like the tranny doesn't know what gear it should be in. I've grown accustomed to easing back on the gas because if not, it will rev like it's in neutral and then bump back into gear and sometimes hard depending how much I'm onto the gas. Last night was just the roughest it's gone back in.
I'll check the fluid today. I checked it a couple of months ago when I did my last service and it was fine.

Message: Check the fluid.
Then maybe get the TCM/PCM reflashed form the dealer. As a last resort of course.
