 Subject: 03 4.7 Dak4X4 worth it?

I have an opportunity to buy a Graphite 2003 Dak 4.7 4X4 Automatic Sport.
It has all power options and tow package, a bed liner and a tonneau cover. It has 108,200 miles.
I am told that it is a one owner truck from Virginia and that the owners drove it from there to here (Springfield, Illinois) many times since new, therefore the high mileage. I have a chance to get the truck for $9,990. I have been reading the posts on this site for over a month and would greatly appreciate any advice and opinions.

yea i think its probably worth it, but if you want to be sure, go to Kelly Blue Book website, or NADA website, they will give you the value after u fill out the little qtn er about the truck

NADA has the average retail at $15,000.
The dealer I am dealing with is known for selling cars quickly and for far under KBB or NADA. They are a very reputable dealer and have been around a long time.

Ya I have the same truck. Accept mines sport plus. I think that's cheep. As long as its been looked after, reg oil change no accidents etc. I'd say go for it. I love my truck.

Sounds cheap to me too. Mine is the same but a QC. If I could buy another one the same age for under 10k, that would be a no brianer. Even though it has more miles than mine. But that's cool, that way you get a new(er) truck for a lower price because of the HIGHWAY miles.
Probably babied compared to than mine at 36k :)

it sounds worth it. but would have a mechanic yo uknow and trust to go over the truck. with one that many miles on the clock I would wonder if he unloaded it becsause there was something going wrong with it. so if a mechanic says its sound Id jump on it. picking up an 03 4x4 under 10 grand is a very good deal.
also ask for a car fax report from the dealer. they have to provide that to you if yo uask for it. to see if there is any hits on it.

Absolutely have it checked out end for end > Blue book is going to beat up the average price due to millage > Doesn't mean it's a bad truck > Just means there going to deduct the extra life expectancy timewise that has been driven out of it > Think I'd talk to the owner also > Could actually be all highway miles and may have been owned by a younger fella with lead in his foot that did a lot of cruising

I agree that it's worth it. Make sure that you find out from the owner what has been replaced on it, so you can anticipate near future problems, like Brakes/Rotors, Tune-up, Transmission fluid & filter replacement, etc.

Yeah, I think it's worth it,,, if there aren't any hidden problems.
1 year ago (December) I totalled my 2000 4.7 auto CC 2wd with 146K miles. The insurance company evaluated it at something like $10,500 with a little fighting on my part. Looks like your truck has a lot more bells and whistles too, 4x4, toneau, bed liner, tow package.
If your not mechanically inclined have an independant mechanic look over the truck to make sure your not buying problems, front suspension, brakes,,, etc...
Might not be a bad idea to run it through CarFax also... if it's been wrecked that's one good reason they would be selling it so cheap.

Well, I got the Dak tonight. Everything checked out fine. CarFax is spotless. The owner was from Vermont, not Virginia like I thought earlier. I think it was really babied. The paint and body are FLAWLESS! The 4.7 runs great. Very proud to have it now. I traded a 99 Blazer that gave me nothing but trouble in the 2 years I had it. In those 2 years I had to replace the Driver side wheel bearing, the alternator, cooling system pressure flushed, A/C compressor, and the tranny 3 times! I decided that I am done with GM all together. Did my research on Daks and ended up with one hell of a truck. Hopefully Mopar will be better to me than GM. Thanks for all your comments and opinions, they helped me make up my mind. I plan on becoming a paid member of this site soon. Now I gotta start thinking about MODS!!!!!!!!!

My three trucks combined have 260K miles. I have had to replace the balljoints (under warranty) on my 2002, replaced the battery and front pads in the 2001 (and will soon do the warranty balljoint replacement), and the 1999 had not had (not needed) anything beyond maintenance and front pads done before I bought it.
Unless this truck turns out to be the bad karma collection point, I think you'll do just fine.
It looks to me you got a sweet deal. Keep us up on the truck.
