Message: I have a 1992 dakota 318 and it starts bucking around the 2000 RPM range. I have had it tuned up, replaced plugs, gaskets, checked EGR system. I am at witts end! I can't seem to find the source of the problem. Any help or suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Message: Depending on the mileage, you may have a blown intake belly pan gasket. My dad also recently had this problem on a '93 Club Cab 3/4 360 Magnum Ram (now how rare is that?) he bought for a song. The gasket was bad, and ran better after repair, but not perfectly. It still had a miss to it. Did all the usual stuff, but it still missed from around 1500 rpm on up. It seemed to hit on all 8 at full throttle (but not strongly), and missed at anything other than idle or wide open. Replaced the distributor, and it's been great since. Man, that sucker runs! I see you mentioned replacing gaskets, did you mean the belly pan gasket or something else?
One thing. Have you reset the computer since your repairs? If not, do so before going any further. Until you do, the computer will not "see" the repairs, and will continue to run as if nothing had been replaced. Just disconnect the battery for a few minutes (15 or so) flip the ignition as if trying to start it (to help drain any residual power from the system), then hook it back up, start it and see if those repairs made a difference. Do this anytime you make repairs.
You can check the belly pan gasket by looking down into the intake through the throttlebody. Bring a good flashlight and have a look. The inside on the intake should be nice and clean since only filtered air goes through it. If you see any signs of an oily residue, the gasket is failing and must be replaced.

Message: I replaced the belly pan gasket as well as others. I havent tried replacing the distributor itself but i replaced the cap and rotor and seems to helped a bit but not totally. Just like you said she runs like a charm under heavy throttle but steady pedal it does it. I forgot about disconnecting the battery for a bit. I will do that. I will also consider a new distributor all together. It seems to be not getting enough spark to ignite the fuel when under normal condition and under heavy conditions it seems to do fine. Thanks for the advice.

Message: I had almost the same thing happen to my 99 5.2. turns out after being driven crazy for 2 weeks and not finding the trouble a friend said to look outside the box. Things that would interfear with fuel or spark. I started with all the sensore on the throttlebody and found out that my throttle position sensor was bad. 56$ and 2 bolts latter the truck was running like new. Turns out that when that sensor gets bad at steady speeds the throttle is getting mixed up info from that sensor so you get that bucking feel. Put an ohm meter on it to check it out, the Haynes manual will have the info you need to do this right. Good luck.

Message: Try running some good Injector/Carburator cleaner in the gas. Not the $.99 S*#t, but the better stuff. If you have injectors, you may have a partically plugged injector, if you don't, you may have a build-up somewhere in the Carb.

Message: Thanks Red , already done it a few times though , no difference . I will agree , I think a dirty injecter{s} is{are} the culpret{s}. The belly pan gasket? Same as Intake ? I`ve looked in the t/b and it is dicolored but not oily or dirty , trucks got 150,000 miles , I didn`t expect it to be perfect . I fail to see any relevance unless it was bad enough to get to the cumbustion chamber to foul the plugs , there were no fouled plugs when I changed em . I didn`t reset the computer after the tune-up , should I ? why ? No codes on the check engine other than 55 . No harsh fumes from the exhaust . I`m going into the dealer first thing tomorrow morning , checking injecters and sensors , hopefully , something shows . Any guesses ?????

Message: I would go ahead and reset the computer. The computer learns the style of your driving and other things. It is always advisable to disconnect the battery and leave it for a few minutes and allow the computer to learn the new setup/equipment. By the way, you will hear people tell you to disconnect the battery for 15 minutes or so, and a minute or 2 will surfice. 13 seconds will normally clear a fault, 20 seconds will clear the trip odometer.

Message: The one that started this post, Kyle, is my best friend and he went and took his truck to the shop. If I remember right he said he had a couple of badly clogged injectors and the camshaft position sensor was off or something like that. Hope that helps your problem Peter. I'll see Kyle at church later tonight, I'll remind him to come and tell you exactly what he had done.

Message: well , the verdicts in , and not one artitcle I read on this here even came close . Turns out , the guy that did my tune up , either lied about changing the rotor or cracked off the metal tab on top . the rotors been replaced and now the bucking is gone , thank God for that . Other points to mention , I have an ,almost in need of changing belly gasket , the distributer has max. play in the gear drive needing a new gear drive and bushing , the timing chain is like the belly gasket , it needs attention soon .
Got a bucking problem with no lights coming on , CHECK YOUR IGNITION CAREFULLY , EVEN NEW STUFF , and if that doesn`t work , spend your money taking to the dodge guys , they had my truck for less than an hour and at a cost of $100 , not bad considering .
The rest I`ll do in a month or so , maybe even haul the engine out and do it right , but for now , it works just fine . Thanks to all that listened , thanks to all that had suggestions , This is a great site because of you !!!!!
