I want to take off my clutch fan but would also like to have the stock electric fan turn on automatically at a lower temp (lower than 210). Has anyone ever put a thermal switch on the stock electric fan? How did you do it? I have an 03 cc 4x4 4.7. Thanks

Stock fan is already thermally controlled by the computer. The fan comes on when your engine coolant is about 210*F, or when you turn on the air conditioner.

you can buy an adjustable temp switch at Advance Auto for about 20 bucks and wire it in. i haven't done it but it shouldn't be too hard with a wiring diagram and a test light or VOM.

I used one for a while along time ago, but I took it off because it kept sticking in the ON position. So I wired in a manual on/off switch just in case I want to turn it on manually; but I seldom use it.

Hope this helps you...

Thanks for the replies, I want to loose the clutch fan and just rely on the electric fan to kick on around 190. I often drive from LA to Vegas up some pretty steep hills in 100 degree temps, will I be alright? Should I put a 180 degree thermostat in as well? Thanks

I was doing some investigating and found that most electric fans list that they should not be used as the primary fan. The recommendation is to keep the Fan Clutch unit and install a pusher fan in between the radiator and the A/C condensor.

Idakota;
Yeah you should put in a 180* Tstat, thats what I did. I have had my clutch fan off for over a couple years now here in NW Florida with no problems.
You can always carry your clutch fan around with you and if you need it, put it on real quick.
I bought my wife a 05 Jeep Liberty and it does not have a clutch fan on it, just the stock e-fan. The end of the water pump shaft is threaded just like the one on my truck. I guess Jeep figured you don't need one either.

Later...
