Message: I know, this is probably a stupid question, but I just wonder if the heads from a 5.7 Hemi would work on a 5.9 or a 5.2. I know my brother, years ago, took the heads from a 1955 Olds and put them on a 1956 with substantial gain in HP. Once I heard that the 340 engine was a bored out 318. Not that i would want to try it, but I think it makes for an interesting discussion.

Message: Wow, we really need some people with a clue around here (I mean theres a few but ive seen some doozies on here) sure you put 55 heads on your 55 olds cause it was still the same lil v8. the 5.7 hemi is a COMPLETELY different engine, block, platform school of engineering etc. not in a million years. Though there is a company that makes a much different hemispherical head that will fit on a dodge LA small block (not a magnum) and its expensivge at that. And NO a 340 is not a bored out 318. At most a 340 os a bored out yet destroked 360 as a 360's stock bore is 4.00 inches and a 340's bore is 3.040 inches. And the 340 has a shorter stroke than the 360. Now you can bore a 318 out (stock bore of 3.91 inches) .130 to get 340 cubic inches but you'd be lucky to not bore right into a water jacket every time, as the 318 is a different casting that a 340 or a 360 and as such has thinner cylinder walls. really the only way you could practially do it is to go into the water jackets around the cylinders and insert sleeves that measure out to 4.040. As such you are just better off using a 360 as your paltform as it was made for decades longer (340 made only 1968-1973) and there is no replacement for displacement. The only practiocal way to get more displacement out of a 318 is to stokre it into a 372 (www.ohiocrank.com for a decent kit) and really still youd be better off at least starting wiht a 360 and then stroking that to 408 or 415 if you wanted. Really this is not the place to get any real info as there are not many people here who know beans about cars much less mopars. Everyone here should go to www.moparts.com for all their questions and to join the real mopar community and only come here if they need to talk to other dakota owners about things that youd think theyd absolutely know about. I'm sorry bout the rant mixed in here. But I've seen people give bad advice in answer to innocnet questions and unfortunately were believed. I guess I just chose this informative post to express my own advice.

Message: Thanks for the rant, but you didn't need to do it by making the insinuation that I'm an idiot. You must be one of those know it all people who get annoyed by questions! I've come on here, most of the time, to see if I can lend a few brain cells and give my views or experiances. It sounds to me that if you had your way, you would have everyone stand by until you had a question you couldn't solve. I appreciate your technical response, but you need to do it in a way that doesn't offend everyone, or don't make it seem like you enjoy talking down to people.

Message: The 340 is the big brother to the 318 and evolved into the 360. Same family.Check your history or ask a 68,69 dart man.(yes, cars predate the drivers license of many of you.)

Message: Red99DakR/T
I heard a couple years back that there is/was a company that made hemispherical heads for almost any vehicle.
The price the i heard they were making them for made a stroker kit/forced induction sound really cheap.
If this is any clue on how much they may have cost.... On the little I4 hemi racing block the head cost more then what the block cost itself i think it came out to 1,000 just for the incomplete hemi head.
