Hey guys, quick question for yas! My reverse lights are staying on all the time! even with the key off and the car in park, its insanity! I pulled the bulbs to stop the drain but now I want to know if there is a common problem that occurs on these particular trucks? Or should I just start probing and see where I end up?

Thanks a ton guys

Mark

Sounds to me to be the Park/Neutral position switch/back-up light switch. The center contact sends a ground to the starter solenoid when Trans is in Park or Neutral and the outer 2 terminals makeup the backup light switch. Check these all with a meter to tell if they are bad. This procedure is outlined my Haynes Dodge Durango & Dakota Pick-ups Repair Manual which you can pick up from any Auto Parts place. Not very expensive and pays for its self in no time. I have one for each one of my vehicles.

I've recently realized that I didn't post that I have a 4.7L and a 45RE in my truck, the location of the reverse light switch doesn't even seem to be underneath the truck according to the dealership computer! Nobody knows where it is! Help?

Sorry, my book only goes up to 1999. My book says it covers the 42RE(4 Cyl), 44RE (V6) and 46RE (V8). The book just says the switch threads in on the Left side (Drivers Side) of the Transmission under the T.V. Lever (Throttle Valve Lever). I hope that helps

Yeah! it s a good one for ya! I had to go on my mitchell on demand to get a wiring schematic. When the dealership or factory installed the trailer towing package they installed an electric brake harness too, hooked up and everything, the hot wire for the trailer brakes was rubbing against the wire for the reverse lights up near the front of the harness and the backup lights were lit up full time! I tracked it down in less than an hour with the mitchell diagrams... So needless to say the dealership/factory installed trailer harness is a poor design, wether it was the dealer or the factory I'm unsure..!

Thanks for the input eh! I appreciate it

I have a 1990 Dakota, v6 3.9L SE. I changed the
bulbs and the Neutral Safety Switch last summer, and
the last time I checked the fuse it was good. Any
solutions? I have no reverse lights either.
