Subject: Seafoam IP: Logged
Message: Ever heard of it? You run it through your engine to clean out all the carbon/gunk build up. A friend of mine did it to his 240SX, and it ran like a totally new car. It sounded better and pulled much harder.
My 1997 Dakota (5.2L SLT CC 4x4) has 124k miles on it, and I really want to run this crap through the engine to clean it out, as I'm positive it's lost some power over the years since it was built in 1997. My question is, where do I pour it? I heard you pour it in the PVC valve, but I wouldn't know where to locate that. Help, please.

Message: Don't think I've used that product specifically, but any time I tried a similar product, on an engine that had a few miles on it and I thought would benefit from it, it wasn't long for this world. They almost immediately started burning tons of oil, and needing an overhaul. Just my experience with stuff like that.

Message: I did install a set of Flowmasters myself, so I should be able to pour some fluid down the throttle body and in the oil crankcase.

Seafoam or chemicals like it have been used for some time at dealers. You run the engine until hot and then you pour in the additive into the throttle body while reving up the motor. This will cause the engine to stall. You let the foam sit in the cylinders and it will loosen the carbon on the pistons and the valves. Sounds good on paper. This additive has been known to clog converters and cause problems with o2 sensors. I was one of the techs using this product since 1985. There is no fix in a can!

Message: I use it in the tank and I'll get 18 mpg for 2 or 3 tanks then it'll drop back to 15-16. I killed my cat on my 94 318 and I gained torque down low, don't have my dyno sheet, but 10 lb-ft across the board, could have been clogged though
